Notes and Quotes: Wyoming's second spring scrimmage

Two down, one to go.

Wyoming completed its second spring scrimmage on Saturday, and there looked to be significant improvement in the passing game. The Cowboys' four quarterbacks passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns, and they have yet to throw an interception in a scrimmage this spring.

Besides the quarterbacks, though, here were a few more notes from Saturday's scrimmage.

The more information we get about practices, I know we still don't have as much I'm starting to feel better about the turn around. I actually feel like our defense when at home will suffocate visiting offenses which is something I really hated about it never being taken advantage of in the past.

I'm rooting for e seniors who might not have seen a lot of playing time the last few years. I hope they take this opportunity to tear shit up and end their careers in style. Go fucking get it Colby and the others. This is your time!

I think the stats this year are a little different then what we've seen last couple years. DC used to run the first string offense against the 2nd string Defense and vice versa. DC wanted to see his offense put up the numbers. Bohl is going 1's vs 1's and with a new offense its gonna be a work in progress. Our Defensive front 7 is loaded with veterans and they're bringing it hard with all those TFL's. Im rooting for Kolby, he's taken his lumps with the Cal poly game. Better offense fo him to play in.

Experience on defense will be a plus.....but I won't know what to really expect until after the Montana game. Its hard to judge when they only play themselves....by nature, something good and bad happens. I still think losing Brett will have a larger effect than people realize. But the D-Line sounds like its coming together...so at least it seems like they won't get mowed down like they did last season.

But again....who really knows? That's the beauty of a coaching change that involves this much transitioning.

Wyoming offense sees improvement in second spring scrimmage

Instead of blue, it was black and blue.

Wyoming's quarterbacks had no safety blanket on Saturday in Laramie. For the second scrimmage of the spring, they took off the blue "no contact" jerseys they had donned in the previous 10 practices.

When a defensive lineman reached the quarterback, there would be no tagging. This was not two-hand touch, where you slapped your man on the back and called "Sack!" as the whistle blew.

Coach Craig Bohl wanted his four quarterbacks to know what it felt like to take a hit.

If they stop the run this year I will be happy. I lost count of the times we would get throttled by the run game. Im just happy we have a competent defensive coordinator. You are right though J rod, we aint gonna know shit untill Montana.

Losing Brett on the field will be like losing Larry on the court, It's not going to be pretty but I'm prepared for 2 years of rebuilding before I expect to see great things so I'm already prepared.

So long as we don't have bad TOs by whoever is the QB, I won't complain.

Freak TOs do happen though, like when the ball ricochet's out of two different guys' hands and into a defenders. That's not on the QB.

While I've been alive through more, Bohl will be the 15th coaching change I can remember at Wyoming. This is the list and their records their first year:

Bob Devaney 4-3-3
Lloyd Eaton 5-5
Fritz Shurmur 5-6
Fred Akers 2-9
Bill Lewis 4-6-1
Pat Dye 6-5
Al Kincaid 8-3
Dennis Erickson 6-6
Paul Roach 10-3
Joe Tiller 4-6-1
Dana Dimel 7-6
Vic Koenning 1-10
Joe Glenn 4-8
Dave Christensen 7-6
Craig Bohl ?

Total 73-82-5
Average 5-6

My point with all of this - my enthusiasm for the new staff is there, but my expectation level is similar to many others. I don't believe we will light the world on fire, probably 5-7 or 4-8. But that's OK. I like what I see happening. The kids are actually allowed to tackle in practice, imagine that. They are in better shape physically (strength and stamina), and will be in better shape mentally by the time fall rolls around. I think Bohl and the staff have things headed the right direction, but only time will tell. Gotta love being a Cowboy fan. I can't wait for fall. Go Pokes.

Goals more clear for UW defensive end Puletasi

Sonny Puletasi’s outlook on life isn’t much different than most adults.

“I wake up, pray, and then the first thing I think about is my family. I know I have to get up and go to work,” he said.

But Puletasi turns just 22 later this month and plays defensive end for the University of Wyoming football team.

Puletasi is in his fifth year at UW, but has been married for three years and has a 3-year-old son, Kason. His wife, Aubrey, and son are back in Puletasi’s hometown of Lawton, Okla., where Aubrey goes to school.
