Wyoming opens +4.5 vs. USU

I have watched the Fresno game twice all the way through...

I'm curious, did it ever come out why Bohl ran out onto the field after that special teams play in the 4th quarter? He was hot and yelling at anyone who would listen.

I haven't read anything anywhere and must have missed it. Any idea?

He was as angry as I have seen him on the sideline this year - and we were up 35 - 10 or 42 - 10 at that point. Great to see the passion. Must have seen another late "shove" from Fresno, and at that point enough was enough.

First of all you're not going to establish the run, sorry, no one has in almost 3 years and that includes some fine offensive lines and runners. I do think Wyoming probably wins this but your QB is going to have to read a very confusing defense that will bring 6-8 guys regardless of down and distance. USU is not a defense that adjusts in the traditional sense. If you hit a couple big throws Orlando will just send another guy the next time. They rely on TOs, sacks, and shutting down the run game and they're very good at all three.

All that said you'll get enough big plays to beat us if Bohl is creative and aggressive on D with the new QB and your QB manages the game and makes big throws against pressure. 17-14 type score.

You're not lying. But why such a 180 between rushing and passing D? The pass D is terrible and the rush D is exceptional. Weird.

Injuries, Shaver, scheme, what?

I watched the game again today at work. I believe he was upset about a cheap shot on that kick return. You can see him say "kick him out of the game!"

Yeah, you can see the very beginning of what pissed him off on the replay...Tyran Finley got blocked to the ground and a Fresno State player was standing over him. You can see the Fresno guy reach down and start to grab Tyran's facemask (afer the play)...then the camera pans over and you don't see exactly what happened after that. Could tell it wasn't going to be a high five and an ass slap.

Then one play later, Tyran gets his second INT and both he and Bohl are smiles. :D

I thought this was pretty funny. I work with a USU fan here in the office and he just sent me this message that his 8 year old diehard Aggie fan son sent him. I thought it was pretty funny...and very astute.

"Just wanted to point out a trend that my son pointed out to me last night. Loss then 2 wins. Loss then 2 wins. etc. If the trend stands Wyoming & Boise win and the Aggies end up with a 8-5 season. Thought that might reassert a little hope for your Friday night!

Disagree with first part and agree with second.

I still remember the glory days of usu when you knew you would win but hoped you escaped injury free due to cheap shot U. I've posted before but one of the memories at the War I will never forget is the WYO punt returner signaling fair catch. usu player didn't care at all and smoked him--total cheap shot; wasn't even close. WYO player's helmet rolled clear back to the goal line. I thought the fans were going to come out of the stands.

At that time, most questioned even playing usu because of their cheap shot tactics. Despised them ever since.

That is what I remember too. One time at USU a Poke receiver was slammed into the wall. I remember thinking "why do we even play these guys?"

Hey guys. Utah State fan here.

I'm excited for this game. I hope we win. I always hope we win. But I also want to see good football. Back in the glory days, before Utah and BYU blew up the old skyline conference, USU - Wyoming produced some of the best football ever played. My dad always said the 1961 6-6 tie was the best game he ever saw. I'm happy to see Wyoming football back where it belongs; tough smash mouth ball that leaves both teams looking for the whirlpool. I like to see you guys winning. Don't get me wrong, I want that rifle. But I want to fight for it. I don't want this game decided until the last minute.

It'll take a while to warm up, but I want to see this grow into a great rivalry. Not a bitter rivalry, like Wyoming - CSU, or USU - BYU, but a tough game between two great teams and schools with lots in common, and with mutual respect.

So here's to a great game with no injuries. I hope we both get bowl eligible, us on Friday, you later!

Go Pokes! Go AGGIES!

Yeah, I remember that. It was 2003. Broke his leg or something. I was going to school at USU at the time and I was in the UW section. I literally had grown @ss men in my face saying we deserved this? Gave me a bad taste for some of the USU fans at the time. But after finishing my schooling there, I grew to realize you have a handful of dumb@sses in every fanbase. (With BYU having two handfuls). Anyway, the USU student section is one of the best in the nation (in bball particularly). My favorite part of that game was we had so many penalties after that cheapshot that UW had the ball 1st and goal from like our own 35 yard line....and still scored.

USU reminded me a lot of UW. Ups and downs. Landing Gary Andersen was nothing short of a miracle for them. Funny how USU and WY are putting more successful players in the NFL than BYU.

That was actually against the Utes in 1998. The ball was still 10 feet over the returner's head when he got hit. The helmet did roll about 15 yards to the goal line, and the Utah player was ejected.

With all due respect to the struggles of Cowboy Football, it doesn't compare to the futility of USU since the mid seventies, the 94-97 stretch excluded where we made two bowls and won one. between 98-2010 we were probably the worst overall FBS program. So forgive our fans who don't know how to handle what we're seeing. From the edge of going FCS to the MW, a ranked team two years ago, a top defense, going toe to toe in our money games. Spanking teams like Hawaii, AFA who used to clean our clocks. Combine this with the luck of our easy victory over a bad BYU team this year nearly doing their program in according to their fan reactions and we're riding higher than an average MW team on its 4th QB deserves. I'm sure Laramie will bring us back to earth.

I think Wyoming is a little underrated right now at this point in the season, but our depth is thin with injuries. I'm sure USU's coaching staff is not underrating us and I know Wyoming's staff & team is not underrating USU. This will be a tough hard fought game that will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes.

Underrated right now?

We barely beat FCS Montana
We barely beat a bad Air Force team early in the year (they are better now)
We got a gift from God to beat FAU
We got torched by Top 25 teams
Lost to a mediocre-bad Hawaii team
Lost to a SJSU team barely (but stats show we got mauled)
Punched in the face in the Border War
First game I got a glimpse of optimism was Fresno State

Actually, what we saw in the 2nd half of the Border War, at least for the offense, carried over to Fresno. The sheep did not take out starters except to give them a breather, well, in the 4th they took out their QB, but otherwise, it was starters from the get go. It just took us a bit too long to get going.

most of these guys are pretty friendly on Twitter. I chatted with a couple of them about their status before and sometimes they comment back and sometimes they don't. wick likes to twit a lot so I hit him up. He told me that according to the Doc he would be good to go for Boise. Whether that's wishful thinking or True, I'm sure we will find out.

This is something I've noticed too - sure, twitter's a nice medium for this since they aren't going to be expected to write long essays in response, but even so. Yarbrough, Wick, Olive, and some of the others are great at interacting with fans.

I find that odd everyone of those guys always respond when I ask them something via twitter, Uso more than anyone.

Barely beat Montana? We beat Montana fairly easily.
So your saying Air Force was worst then but they are better now, However the same credit could be given to UW.
We beat FAU because the defense played hard and attacked the ball, fumbles happen.
Every team in the MWC would get torched by OU & MSU.
Hawaii beat us fair and square we should have had that game but I feel like who they put in after white went out didn't help us any.
We did lose to SJSU we should have never been in the game as we barely put up 73 yards in the first half. But in reality after a 73 yard first half they should have been up 21-10 like we were on Fresno.
Border War we got beat but we fought back in the second half, It took Colby 3 quarters to get going and that is a problem that he can't have against teams. If it takes 3 quarters to find your receivers you will always lose and we all know that and we have seen it against both SJSU & CSU however against Fresno we changed quite a bit of the offense scheme and it worked for Colby plus the receivers got separation either because FSU has a shitty secondary or the receivers have finally realized this isn't the spread anymore.
Fresno imo is the first game that we have played 100% for 4 quarters and I think if we play like that for 4 quarters we could beat anyone on the schedule except OU & MSU.

All I'm really saying is we aren't underrated but we are overlooked, Everyone expects the same from us that we gave the first half of the season. So yes we could come out cold and flat and not get any chemistry going until the 3rd quarter and if we do we will lose. But if we play 100% for 4 quarters and Hill has even half the day he had against Fresno then we'll win the game.

What kind of wager do you want to put up on Hill getting 140 and 6 ypc. That's too funny. Monte Ball came the closest the last 3 years with 139 but it took him 40 carries to get there. I think Wyoming wins this but no Freshman is putting up 140 yards on 20 carries. I watched the Fresno runs. There were gaping holes, there were tons of missed tackles, there were LBs going the wrong way, there was safeties getting outrun. None of those things are available this week for Wyoming. Instead you'll be looking at a whole lotta Vigil in the backfield and a D-Line that ties everything up.

Wyoming grinds this one out by challenging our field corner and nickel backs, creating some turnovers, great placekicking, and no fumbles or INTs, and with a dominating D-Line. I think you guys will win, but run on us? Get real.
