Wyoming opens +4.5 vs. USU

Actually, prior to us, Fresno was solid against the run. Not dominant, because they would allow a big run or two a game, but they normally did pretty well. But we just blew them up in the running game with Hills first career start.
Coming into the game, Fresno State ranked 113th out of 125 FBS schools against the run (9th in MWC), averaging 218.5 ypg allowed. They now rank 114th (9th in MWC), averaging 235.8 ypg allowed.

Utah State is currently 5th in the nation, averaging 90 yards per game allowed.

I admit that Fresno defense is poor. But, not like USU has been clobbering powerhouses this year, either. Their defense is a very good defense, yes. But to be popping collars and puffing chests makes them look like BYU.

Knock it off. Bottom line is that you have a decent (not great) USU team vs a mediocre UW team. As I sit and watch TCU and Utah go toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the nation, the reality is that USU and UW truly belong in the MWC and nothing more.

1 - Bad
2 - Mediocre
3 - Decent
4 - Good
5 - Great

Is it confirmed that Wick will be back by Boise? I thought Stover losing his redshirt was a pretty good indicator that Wick is done.

I haven't heard the coaching staff say when Wick will be back just a lot of talk 3-4 weeks out.

most of these guys are pretty friendly on Twitter. I chatted with a couple of them about their status before and sometimes they comment back and sometimes they don't. wick likes to twit a lot so I hit him up. He told me that according to the Doc he would be good to go for Boise. Whether that's wishful thinking or True, I'm sure we will find out.

Well, according to the USU forum I get on, this game is a slam dunk W for USU. So, the Pokes just need to play hard and see what happens.

As a USU alum, I can't believe how many douche bag "newer" fans there are that have no clue about how poor USU's football program was before Gary got there. Some of the fans are acting like USU is a legit powerful team now. Get a few good years of being above .500 and completely lose their minds.

So, for all you USU fans reading this thread. Tone it down, boys. I live in Utah now. I went to USU for multiple degrees. I loved Logan and the fans. That said, the complete $%%^ years in the WAC were embarrassing. So quick to forget how crappy we were. Many of the fans I spar with now were in diapers the last time USU was relevant.

Summary...tone it the #$#% down guys. Jeez, some of the you on the USU forum seriously sound like BYU fans.

You get a few of "those fans" in every fan base. Ignore them. I agree we have some morons over at usufans.com. Personally, I've watched USU football since '95 and feel I have a pretty level head about where the program is right now. That being said, history has no relevance to the present in college football.

I still think it will be a good game.

This is something I've noticed too - sure, twitter's a nice medium for this since they aren't going to be expected to write long essays in response, but even so. Yarbrough, Wick, Olive, and some of the others are great at interacting with fans.

Oh, I agree. Every fan base has them. I just follow the USU board closely as well and the same fans calling for Matt Wells' head a few weeks ago after Ark State are now praising his name. Jeez, people. Just be cool.

We can agree that BYU has the most ridiculous fanbase however.

As well as Stratton.

I think the game will come down to how well we can do on 1st down. As with any offense, 2nd and 5 and 2nd and 4 is much easier to manage than 2nd and long. The short routes have been yielding a lot of success. I would much prefer to see us hit a wide receiver on a slant for 5 yds. or 6 yds. than run it up the middle for 1. Gotta establish the pass and demand respect from the d before we will have success running. This will help keep our d off the field. In our case the best defense is a good offense.

Go WYO! Beat the Aggies!

In most games, you establish the run to open up the passing. This game will be the opposite, in my observation. Come out passing. Have enough success to make USU adjust their defense, then ram it down their throat.

Oh yeah Stratton. Lol he's a fan favorite. I like tweeting with Olive, Wick, Stratton and Eddie is pretty cool. kind of cool to interact with the players.

I think it is a proximity to yBu, we see them so much in daily life they take on that asshole persona.
But like you said, so many have not seen the pit that we were in. It's a battle each week with the instant gratification generation versus the guarded majority. It can be unbearable or comical

Now comparing us to the zoobs is just downright mean. There wasn't any serious call for Matt Wells head. There was genuine concern about the O-line and Mark Weber's coaching history. To call us atrocious on that front does not even begin to describe what we had thought to be our highest recruited O-line ever. Since then the two have got a handle on the line and they even moved Hawaii around pretty good. (Idaho State's tackles lived in our backfield.)

We realize how bad we were all those years but other than the Arky State debacle we have beaten fairly easily anyone that we're favored against in Vegas for 3 years running. (I would call CSU even a worse debacle as we lost a game against Grayson who craps his pants every time he plays us. To lose a game where your D allows the other team to get into the red zone one time is worse than inexcusable but we were slight dogs in that one).

So forgive our fans for being a little cocky. I have a feeling that old Bohl's eyes lit up when he realized he had film and a week to go after a true Freshman QB. We'll shut down Hill and the run game...just a fact of life, but you'll get enough big plays to pull out the W. 17-14 range. Too many things against us. One starting LB left (if little Vigil rests again), 4th string true freshman QB, a suspect O-line, going from Honalulu to Laramie in six days, a great opposing coach on the sidelines, a team high from destroying the league nemesis...

Truth be told though Wells loves those kind of the world against us motivating things and does pretty well with them so you never know. Like I said expect a war. The Aggies will probably go down but they never seem to go down quietly or without taking a few casualties with them.

You seem like a normal fan. In fact, most usu fans are. But, wow, some on that site are byu 2.0

Some of the nonsense spewing from *some of them is comical. How quick they forgot about the USU glory years.

They also forget how quickly we could be back down with the loss of Wells, Orlando, and most importantly Barnes. All three are inevitable. To be honest, its nice to forget those years. Can you blame them. There's a reason we're the most insecure fan base in college football. There was a year not long ago where it took us 5 games to score an offensive TD.

On a serious note though I look at the problems emanating from Provo and think the Aggies may be the 2nd best team in Utah for a while. They've got some real long term structural issues as a program. There is no back to 1984 in the Future. That and the fact that the thought of being second to "the Glorified Highs School: is putting our Zoob neighbors in the State Hospital at ever increasing rates and finally removing them from polite society, and that makes
us overly and stupidly giddy.

I am also a Wyoming resident and went to Texas and Nebraska with my Wyoming buddies here. My eight year old boy is the only Aggie and Seahawk fan in his class so while this game is another conference sleeper against a long forgotten rival who was the worst team in the FBS for a decade, its a lot of fun for me.

Disagree with first part and agree with second.

I still remember the glory days of usu when you knew you would win but hoped you escaped injury free due to cheap shot U. I've posted before but one of the memories at the War I will never forget is the WYO punt returner signaling fair catch. usu player didn't care at all and smoked him--total cheap shot; wasn't even close. WYO player's helmet rolled clear back to the goal line. I thought the fans were going to come out of the stands.

At that time, most questioned even playing usu because of their cheap shot tactics. Despised them ever since.

I am still riding high from the beat down we put on the dogs. however, when I start to look at Utah State, I am concerned. I have watched the Fresno game twice all the way through and several times some of the highlights and I don't see Utah State's second level missing as many easy tackles and letting #8 go for big homerun plays. That also is assuming our O-Line dominates as they did against FSU. If you watch Brian Hill's big runs they all came down to him beating typically one guy in the second level with him at full speed. The O-Line was tremendous. They also gave Colby plenty of time most of the night. I do think Wyo CAN beat Utah St. but my gut says we lose... I love the FIGHT in this team and hope it is enough to overcome.

Wyo - 28
Utah State - 34

Go WYO! Prove me wrong.

I'm curious, did it ever come out why Bohl ran out onto the field after that special teams play in the 4th quarter? He was hot and yelling at anyone who would listen.

I haven't read anything anywhere and must have missed it. Any idea?

First of all you're not going to establish the run, sorry, no one has in almost 3 years and that includes some fine offensive lines and runners. I do think Wyoming probably wins this but your QB is going to have to read a very confusing defense that will bring 6-8 guys regardless of down and distance. USU is not a defense that adjusts in the traditional sense. If you hit a couple big throws Orlando will just send another guy the next time. They rely on TOs, sacks, and shutting down the run game and they're very good at all three.

All that said you'll get enough big plays to beat us if Bohl is creative and aggressive on D with the new QB and your QB manages the game and makes big throws against pressure. 17-14 type score.
