Wyoming @ Ohio State

The game is Monday night and is the biggest game of the season perhaps for The Pokes. How do you see the game playing out?

Pokes give a good showing, and fight the entire game. They probably eventually lose by about 8 points IMO.

I'll channel my inner beaver and say the cowboys put it all together and drag OSU into a defensive quagmire and defeat the mighty buckeyes 67-64. Look for Larry to have a huge night. GO POKES

Even the weak teams don't seem to have trouble getting inside on the Pokes. Wouldn't expect any different from OHS, except OHS probably has more ability to sink those shots. So Wyo. has to match that with 3's, IMO.

This is a big game, but far from the biggest game of the season. Those are reserved for UNM, SDSU, CSU, and Boise State I hope.

I think the weekend series with UNC and SMU will weigh much heavier than a game like this.

From what I have seen OSU plays down to opponents so I think it will be pretty close for about 35 minutes. OSU will pull it out but we will see some good things from the Cowboys. Nance and Grandberry will have good games

I think it goes without saying that the Cowboys will have to play a nearly flawless game tonight to leave Columbus with a win. The talent gap is undeniable, and there is no other sport where playing on the road imparts such a major obstacle as in college basketball. As a few have already mentioned, Nance will be energized to have the chance to play in his home state against one of the powerhouse college basketball programs. Will that energy lead to a breakout performance or forced offense and silly fouls? For Cowboys fan's sake, we will need it to be the former. In my opinion, Hankerson is the key to how the Cowboys fair tonight. We need him to have a career game.

Player to Watch: Aaron Craft (G, 6,2, 195 lbs, Sr.)
Craft may be the best backcourt defender in the entire nation. Grabau and Adams will face intense on-the-ball pressure from Craft the entire night. If they have a rash of turnovers like we've seen in a couple games this season, OSU will likely go on a run that the Cowboys will be unable to recover from. Craft is not a major offensive threat. He's not great at getting to the rim and isn't a particularly skilled jump shooter. I expect the Cowboys to trust Grabau to keep Craft at bay on the offensive end, which will allow Adams to match up with some of OSU's more dynamic wing players.

Best Match-Up: Larry Nance Jr vs. LaQuinton Ross (F, 6'8, 220 lbs, Jr.)
This is a great match-up between Junior big men who were expected to take a big step forward this season. Big things were expected from Ross this season, and so far, he has been a massive disappointment. The skills are there, so he has the potential to have a big game against any given opponent. Nance must win this match-up for the Pokes to have a legitimate chance.

The Buckeyes were picked to finish 3rd in the 12 team Big Ten in the preseason poll. From what I've seen so far, I think OSU will be in a battle for the conference title in a conference that is loaded with solid teams. The strength of the Buckeyes is on the defensive end. Frankly, they are a very mediocre offensive team. The Cowboys have done a good job of getting good looks at the basket or getting to the foul line so far this season, but this defense is probably the best they will see all season. In the end, OSU's exceptional defensive talent will wear the Pokes down and force turnovers and bad shots. This game may remain within grasp for a while, but I see the Buckeyes pulling away for a 15 point win, 55-40.

These are two teams that are very similar to each other. I honestly think that Wyoming's got better offensive players, but Ohio State is one of the top defensive teams in the country. Watch this game closely, because this is the type of defense that Coach Shy wants to see in Laramie. We're close, but the Buckeyes are on another level.

Call me overly optimistic or whatever, but if a team wants to play a slow defensive game, that is the best possible thing for Wyoming.
That's what we do. The rare offensive outbreaks are nice, but that isn't Shyatts bread and butter.
If Ohio State wants to slow it down a lot, they better make sure they can hit the buckets they need to.
Wyoming playing tough defense is no good for the other team. See SDSU, 9 points at halftime last season.

I didn't realize Ohio State played a defensive game like we do. This could be much closer than I thought.
Hell, the winning team might be the team that goes on a little run with 10 minutes left.

Shyatt actually prefers to run a more uptempo, fast-break offense. The players he had the past 2 seasons really forced him to run a slow, deliberate offense. We are already starting to see the transition to a faster paced team this year, and I suspect we will see even more uptempo teams in the years to come as Shyatt brings in more of his recruits. Of course, Shyatt emphasizes defense first and foremost and won't sacrafice it in the name of increasing pace.

The only way we are going to have a chance in this game is if we make the most of every single posession. We have to limit our turnovers to single digits, get high percentage shots, and get to the line more often than the Buckeyes. That's asking a lot for a team on the road against, arguably, one of the best defensive teams in the last decade.

It is on firstrow, as well as being streamed through BTN to go. You can access it if you have one of their providers and sign in like with espn3.

Transition game has been huge for Wyo in the first half. Let's hope we can stop them from getting the tip-ins down low along with the three-ball. Our guys, especially Nance, are motivated and know they have it in them to pull this game out!

Man...it's refreshing to see what good coaching can do!

Wyoming needs to stay in the zone. THey are doing a good job overall with it. Ohio St. wasn't shooting the 3 ball well at all coming into this game and tonight in the 1st half they are finally hitting a few and that is the difference so far in this game. I would stay in the zone and see if Ohio St. can keep shooting that high of a percentage from the 3 point line.

If they can't then Wyoming has a chance to steal this.
