Some worrisome news out of the Cowboy camp. It seems the Scout team offense if completing passes at will against our number ones and twos. But with receivers like Brown, Sewell, Berger, Maulhart, and Simpson who would expect anything less i guess. DC has been pissed to say the least the last few practices! Wyo has a new GA from Oregon who is a psycho who is running the scout O.

I think Thompson is the scout offense QB as he is expected to red-shirt and is the closest thing we have to Taylor Made in terms of running and athletic ability. I could be wrong though. I sure hope it isn't Kirkgaard embarrassing the defense.

Link? Where did you hear about the Oregon psycho? lol

I watched him in a couple of practices........he is great. Runs right next to the running backs screaming at them! LOL

It is Kirkagard and the new freshman....#13? And I don't think they are redshirting Jason.

Umm, yes they are redshirting Thompson. Christensen said that back in Spring. He is the #2 QB, but they don't want to burn his RS for just a couple plays. If Smith is out for a game, Thompson will likely play, but they aren't going to burn his RS for nothing. They want to RS him, so he has 2 year to start after Smith leaves.

Again, I like Martinez but he is not in the same class as Brett Smith.

Taylor Martinez played six Top 30 Pass Defenses last year and beat four of them.

Brett Smith faced two and lost to both. Smith threw two TDs against those top opponents and averaged 187 yards in those two games.

Martinez threw eight TDs against top competition and averaged 200 yards per game.

So you're right when you say Martinez isn't in the same class as Brett Smith.

He's better.

Yes. Christensen has made it very clear their intention is to red shirt Thompson. If Smith stays healthy all season, why in the world would they bring Thompson in? They want Thompson to start for 2 years, not just 1.

But Smith had more yards and touchdowns!! He played against tougher competition.

Who is a more attractive applicant? The one with a 3.5 GPA from Harvard or the applicant with the 3.6 from your local state college. Apparently that's an easy choice for UW fans

Turnovers and mental mistakes are the key, whomever makes the least should be in good shape, and even if we play a semi perfect game, I'd like our chances, but again, how the team handles on the road adversity, is another key!!
I've been a few big game stadiums with us (Texas, A&M, Okla St, Colorado) and you can feel the pendelum swing then it's all over, for once I'd like to see us on the opposite side of the coin, once...lol, but again it all adds up on paper, and like Chris Berman says, "that's why they play the games", what if, what if, NEB has a horrible day all around, it can happen will it probably not

Comparing the MWC to a local state college, and the Big10 to an Ivy League school in terms of academics? Wow. That is a stretch.

And I didn't realize that Wyo losing to the Top 30 defenses falls soley on Brett Smith, and Nebraska beating Top 30 defenses is all due to Taylor Martinez. You want to compare teams? Fine. Nebraska is better. Want to compare the QBs, you are clueless to think that Martinez is genuinely better than Smith based off the entire TEAMS record against Top 30 defenses.

then my question is why does Neb and all "bigger" school schedule cream puffs year in and year out, sure we need the $$ but if you guys are so far superior play each out outright then we'll truly know who's best year in and year out, that's why i can't wait for the bigger guys to have their own playoff, league, afterall NCAA is turning into the Minor Leagues for the NFL anymore

That's why I threw in the individual stats from playing against those Top 30 defenses. Smith's aren't as good as Martinez'. Bottom line.

Jason is not happy here and tried to leave after last year. DC would not let him out of his obligation so he stayed. He would have had to sit out a year otherwise. DC also told him he wasn't good enough to play in the PAC. DC is really high on Tommy Thorton (#13 a frosh). Plus they are bringing in Ford from Gillette next year who is a great prospect as well. So the dilemma is .......who does he play WHEN Brett gets a concussion? notice I didn't say "if!"

That's a good point, and I think down the road Division I is going to look very different than it does today. I don't think we're going to have one top division with 120+ teams. The kind of money the top 60 schools can put into their athletic departments is very, very different, and the disparity is just growing.

I don't think that's a good thing for college football. It is not going to change, though.

Well in the case of Nebraska scheduling Wyoming the answer is a little bit different. It's a three-game series, with two of them at home (the next in 2017 I believe), and the third being a bit of a good-will gesture to the fans in western Nebraska.

The simple answer to why everyone schedules cream puffs is money - guaranteed home games that rake in the dollars. Also, everyone does it because everyone is doing it.

Lol, so you can see into the future? You think Smith is for sure getting another concussion? Remember he didn't get a concussion because he is small and weak, he got a concussion because of an incredibly dirty hit that would have gave anyone a concussion.
If Smith goes out then yes Thompson plays. If not, then Thompson is red shirting.
Thompson didn't want to leave because he doesn't like it here, he left because he wasn't going to get any playing time for a couple years. DC never told him he wasn't good enough to play in the Pac12.
DC is great at getting QBs to Laramie, that shouldn't be a surprise. Look at ACS, starting in the SEC, Foles @ SJSU who had the #3 passer rating in the country last season. The kid who came the same season Smith did but wasn't going to get playing time so he left, was one of the top dual threat QB recruits in the country that season. And now Smith, and Thompson.
Yeah we have Ford coming next year, but what if Cade Smith comes too the next season? Then what happens to Ford and Thorton?
Thompson is going to redshirt if Smith stays healthy. And he likely will.
Bottom line is that DC gets great QBs, and t

Is Stanford better for you. Don't want any of that east coast bias getting in the way. Usually in football losing falls on your head coach and the teams QB. You have your side to statistics and you can twist them any way you would like. Comparing stats to the level of competition, where even Taylor struggles last season, is a very efficient way of examining what the statistics really mean. Brett averaged 320 yards and 4.33 touchdowns with no interceptions against Idaho, CSU, and New Mexico. Those three teams averaged out to be the 110, 97, and 98 ranked defenses respectively. The stats are still very impressive, but nonetheless just stats. Statistics must be correlated or measured against something or they really have no value. But I'm done bickering about Smith and Martinez. Smith could throw 3 interceptions Saturday and still be the best QB in college in your eyes. I can't change that. Good luck to the pokes.

And Martinez will likely fumble a couple times and throw a couple picks while Smith throws for 300 yards 3 TDs and no picks and you will think Martinez is better than Smith. Remember, when that happens, don't forget that the Wyo defense sucks, and the Nebraska defense is a lot better.

Against you guys? Why would he do that? He has turnovers against top competition, not against defenses ranked in the bottom 1/4 of college football.

You seem to think Martinez is going to hand Wyoming the ball several times. You're going to be sadly surprised Saturday, sir.

Do you know the entire story SlowHand? Do you know Jason, just like every other freshman, athlete or not, got homesick. He's happy to be in Laramie and will be a two year starter...if Ford isn't incredible. And BS on DC not letting him out of his commitment. His teammates were his biggest influence.

I'm not buying DC told him this crap either. He came to Wyoming to play quarterback. He was offered a scholarship to a PAC10 school (Washington) to play safety. He is good enough to play in the PAC and that was proven with the offer.

We'll see if Brett gets another concussion. If we does, we now have a capable backup.

I think this...right here..is absolutely delusional. Comical even.

Taylor didn't even throw a pick or fumble against Wyoming two years ago, as I have stated multiple times, the vast majority or Taylors mistakes and fumbles have come against top competition, when he is trying to make a play when NU needed it. He isn't going to just drop the ball when he sees Wyomings DLine getting pancaked by NUs OLine.

2 years ago Martinez couldn't even complete simple passes. They would be short, behind, or completely off. I watched him fail as a passing QB against a less than stellar defense. And if our players had had more experience, they would have made Nebraska pay for the multiple fumbles their offense had. As it was though, we started a ton of true freshmen the first few years of Coach DC being here.
