Wyoming @ Nebraska - GTS

Even though there are question on the D, there aren't many on the O. I think this O is good enough to score points. And the D will be good enough to get some stops and force some turnovers. First game and the Pokes are out to prove the skeptics wrong and that last year was a fluke.

Pokes 28
The team in red 27

I'm gonna be there "finally" been years in the making, I'm hoping it's a scare like in 1994. Damn muffed punt by Jenay Jackson.....it's going to be an adventure on all aspects. But I don't think we are scared by playing a "Big 10" team, Brett has to be protected all day and find his spots. But I can't see us coming out with one, although I'd love too, I just think the big boys of Nknowledge U, are too much for our team, but It's going to be a fun one.
NU....34 UW 21, they pull ahead late

I love the optimism BP, but although Taylor may be a turnover machine, I think they are too deep. We have a very unproven defense. Nebraska could probably line up and knock the shi outta us running the ball the entire game. Just wear us down. Plus, if we are running a fast paced offense, our D could get even more tired more quickly. Until our D proves to me that they are finally able to compete, I can't go all in with a UW win. Cover the spread...possibly.

The only thing we have proven:
Brett Smith and the WR corps

Unproven:
Linebackers
Defense backs
Kicking game
Punting game

That recipe does not bode well for playing a team like Nebraska.

Pains me to say this, but final score...

Nebraska 41 UW 17

It's not really optimism, it's just fact. It's not me being overly optimistic when I point out Martinez turns the ball over more than anyone in the country. It's not being optimistic to remind people Nebraska has a very untested defense as well. And the last 2 times they played a game they gave up an insane amount of points in each game. It's not me being overly optimistic to remind people that Nebraska isn't Oregon on offense and Alabama on defense.
Like I said, Wyo probably won't win, but to think they are just going to absolutely destroy us worse than Texas did is silly.

Nebraska fan here.

Admittedly I don't know a great deal about Wyoming, but from everything I've heard, it seems the only established strength of your team (the passing game) plays right into what we are good at. We've had the best secondary in the nation in defending the pass over the last four years, and return a lot of proven depth in the backfield.

Also worth noting that while Taylor's turnover problems are well documented, they shouldn't come into play as much in this game. His tendency to turn the ball over is much more pronounced against top competition. It's a huge focus of spring and fall camp, but who knows how it will play out on the field.

My guess was 52-20 but I could easily seeing a 46-28 type of game as well.

I am certainly not saying Wyoming will blow the doors off the Bug Eaters, but this is the same rhetoric that the bug eaters were saying going into the Wisconsin game. Mind you...that was against a 7-5 Wisconsin team. Also, Nebraska was 12th in the country? WTF? Wisconsin took Nebraska behind the corn silo and beat the hell out of them. And that was with a proven defense. This years defense is awfully suspect.

So, to say that it will be a blow out will need to be proven on the field. 52-20? Are you kidding me? Our team from last year could have done better than 52-20. Again, the Big Red Head monster is crawling at bug eater nation.

There were a lot of extenuating circumstances in the B1G Championship game. I won't get into it, because I'm not trying to justify or excuse the embarrassment, but we beat that same team earlier in the season, which I think shows that that game was a bit of an anomaly.

Like I said, my prediction is a bit based on the unknown (assuming our offense rolls and our defense shows improvement with needed athleticism), but I don't see any realistic ways Wyoming will be in this game late. Your offense is built around throwing the ball - our defense is elite at stopping the pass. Your run defense is a leaky sieve, our running offense is established and powerful.

On paper we match up well against your offense and you match up poorly against ours. We'll see if I have to come back eating some crow :)

Question is...typical reaction to a game like this under the direction of DC & Staff is to completely piss down our leg and get our ass kicked. Sure we hang for a quarter or two, but then the "surprise" factor wears off, and all the trick plays have been used. Will that trend continue?

I say yes. Unfortunately. Knebraska 51, UW 20

Kind of what I was wondering myself. Nebraska last year, with a bunch of proven defensive players that had played all season were, well, to put it mildly, completely destroyed by a 7-5 Wisky team. And this year, they return what, 4 starters on defense? And Martinez, yeah, he's a turnover machine. He can run as well as any RB, but he's not the best throwing QB.

Not saying our defense has been any better, but Wyoming has NEVER allowed 70 point beat downs, even in our worst years and losses. And Nebraska expects to dominate on defense when replacing almost ALL of their "proven" defense from last year? OK...

To compare Wyoming team this year to the Wisconsin team of last year is a bit off. First off we know nothing of the Wyoming team other than they have a Qb that many in the press would consider mediocre. Next we are comparing a MWC team to a team that plays in a POWERHOUSE conference and constantly does better than Wyoming, who plays in a non BCS conference. Wyoming fans, me included, are hoping that the game will not be a blowout. That is a far shout from declaring victory. I hope Wyoming does well but the facts are they probably won't. Vegas odds are usually pretty close, or they would lose money. I am going to say that Wyoming will BEAT the spread and not lose by 30. but will lose nontheless. My prediction is that Nebraska score early and often and Wyoming finally gets on the board against the reserve players. Score 35-10 Nebraska, and that is coming from a Wyoming fan!

There seems to be some confusion as to who's actually heading to Lincoln this week.

Pop Quiz - Which of these teams is playing Nebraska this week?

The only "proven" portion of our defense from last year was our secondary. They were #8 in the nation in Pass Efficiency, and that's after playing the 20th-ranked Strength of Schedule.

Wyoming, on the other hand, ranked #38 in Pass Efficiency on offense. And that's after playing the 101st-ranked Strength of Schedule.

So your strength on offense matches up very well with our secondary, and we return all of our top defensive backs from last year.

Oh and another notable stat to consider....Nebraska has the longest opening game winning streak in the FBS at 27. So that means they haven't been beat in 27 year yo!

McPeachy,

With your love of DC, I would expect no better answer from you. HA! I guess we will see about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night. I am not saying Wyoming can take the NU-tards down, or win (well, I BELIEVE they can win, whether or not that happens will be decided later). But to suggest that type of a beat down is crazy talk. Did we go off our meds again?

Last 4 years of UW recruiting, 20 3 star commits or higher.
Last years recruiting class for Nebraksa, 24 3 star recruits or higher.

I look a little more into recruiting than most, but you boys better hope your first stringers do not get winded becuase you cannot be deep at all. Goodluck in this weeks game.

Last time I checked, those Rivals star rankings won exactly ZERO national championships. If you look deeper into recruiting, you should know that though. Doucher.

I do believe Martinez is way to confident, arrogant, and overlooking the Pokes. He is a big shit talker, especially for having so many fumbles and int's.

I do believe you have no idea what you're talking about. Martinez at the presser just a few minutes ago, on why the Huskers aren't overlooking Wyoming - "Wyoming might play for a national championship. You never know."

You are right. I was using them as evidence that UW is not a deep team. Not going off the rankings to pick a winner. I will say, rankings actually may win championships, 3 of the past 4 years.

I hope I am completely wrong. And my prediction sucks, yes. But looking at the last 4 years of Wyoming football...and how we are coached in "big" games...I don't have a good feeling. And as I inferred, we may be close (like 20 - 24 at half) and then, we will probably see our typical "order pizza and watch a movie" at halftime hoorah, and pee pee down our legs.
