LAS VEGAS — Look up and down the Wyoming roster and one word is a constant: freshman.
With 19 redshirts from last year, a full 2015 recruiting class and a large number of true freshman walk-ons expected when fall camp opens on Aug. 10, much of the Cowboys' roster will be inexperienced compared to the 2014 team.
However, Craig Bohl views the youth movement in Laramie as cause for enthusiasm.
“Last year was a unique year,” said Bohl, whose team went 4-8 in 2014. “We stepped into our third-string quarterback right from the get-go. We played two nationally ranked teams outside of conference, we had a senior, veteran defense, which can be good or bad. Now we’re going to be playing with a whole lot of young guys and we’re excited about that.”
During Mountain West Media Days on Wednesday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Bohl told reporters he expects to play “a lot” of freshmen at two spots in particular: wide receiver and the defensive secondary.
In Bohl’s program culture, that’s far from ideal.
