I didn't realize how mediocre they'd been good lord. I still don't hate the game if we can use it to help built a recruiting ground in Missouri but it's certainly a choice from Burman. I would've preferred a full on east coast team at that point but what do I know, Burman is smarter than all of us obviously.

Yea. It was eyebrow raising when Missouri State indicated an intent to move from FCS to FBS. They have always sucked in FCS and yet they wanted to move to FBS? Their uncharacteristic winning record last year was purely the result of moving to a 'FBS' CUSA that was worse than the FCS Missouri Valley.

I think that since Mizzou is the only FBS school in MO and there isn't a G6 school in KS either gives them a massive recruiting edge and with the right coach I do see them being solid. But you're right the history isn't there. Are there other MVC schools that would've made more sense? No doubt but location gives them a big edge in my opinion, though I did laugh at the 'FBS' comment for C-USA, it's very accurate given they might worse than the Big Sky as well and not just the MVC

I almost thought that was our record

Christ, you all will whine about anything. You're mad we're playing the sheep. You're mad we're playing Missouri State. You're mad about the non conference schedule this year. What would be a good matchup? You want to go to Indiana and get our asses whipped? You want Miami to come to Laramie and boat race us? Missouri State is exactly the kind of non conference game we need. They're a good but not great G6 team, which is exactly what Wyoming is.

Come on, quit with the "whiner" bullshit. This is a message board, to share it all, happy or unhappy.

That said...

Yes, I am pissed we are playing the sheep in their pen, from what was a solid home game with UNT.
Yes, I am mad we are playing Missouri State. Awful opponent, zero interest, get real.
Yes, I am mad about the non-conference schedule this year. UConn in November? WTF.

I would rather man up and play the game (even a body bag game as some pussies refer to it). I would rather us challenge ourselves in the non-conference, than limp through things and feel good about going 2&2 against meh competition. Indiana, Miami, pay me, and challenge me, yep - all day long. As Pat Hill used to preach at Fresno...we will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. Not at Wyoming. What are we scared, weak, pants pissers of a D1 team? I sure hope the team is not made up like some of our fanbase.

So you'd rather see Wyoming get the shit kicked out of them in non conference, stack up injuries, and struggle through the rest of the season than build some momentum before going into a the part of the season that matters?

The non conference is very unappealing this year — I'm of the same opinion. I'd still rather root for a team that's competitive than one that gets piss pounded week in and week out. I'd also be super pissed if our AD just let a 125+ year rivalry with a school 50 miles away die.

This ain't 1996. College football is different. I can say without a shadow of a doubt I'd rather see Wyoming beat a 7 win UConn team than be one of Florida State's 2 wins.

Ask yourself this question: What benefits the University of Wyoming the most?

Revenue from an opponent’s stadium that hold 70-100K or revenue from one that holds 25,000.

Right now the game is about the Benjamins. Those who have do better than those who do not.

If you’re worried about injuries, you probably should not be playing football.

Are you really asking whether I’d rather we have a September home game against a good G6 North Texas team or whether I’d rather we do what Tom Burman did and give that game up and not have that extra home game so that we can travel to Fort Collins to help a team leaving us behind and suing us escape their away game at Indiana?

Sorry bud. As a long time season ticket holder who pays money for games and who is now stuck with a god awful schedule full of crappy November games in Laramie next year…yea I believe I have every right to complain. There’s a good reason why my giving day dollars was $0 for athletics last year for the first time in a long time.

But, as you help demonstrate, Burman gets a pass when the fanbase is chock full of cheerleaders for that nonsensical move.

We can only dream now that we were scheduling OOC games against opponents drawing 25,000. Missouri State’s never filled stadium only holds 17,500.

Hard to think any of the power conference teams will be scheduling UW in the near future. As poor as this team has been, an easy win for a power team against us is a net loss for them in RPI.

I understand the comment regarding negativity. There are things to feel good about. I felt the consensus was that with the Mountain West conference losing decent programs, it would be critical for Wyoming to schedule quality non-conference games. There are a handful that look pretty good...Utah, Texas Tech, Cal, Arizona. Maybe UW did that, maybe they didn't. I will absolutely be in the stands for the Cal game on 9-08-29. Aside from that.... I am sure they will be some in conference games (UNLV, Air Force) that would be fun but I do like early games for the fishing.

Wyoming scheduled the football series with Utah in 2017. Wyoming scheduled each series with Texas Tech, Cal and Arizona each in 2020.

In September 2024, Boise, CSU, SDSU and Fresno State announced they were leaving the MWC.

Are we really arguing that Wyoming scheduled those series in 2017 and 2020 knowing that the future MWC would be dog water? And do we really believe those teams would schedule the same deals with Wyoming in light of the new circumstances?

PS - I wouldn’t be shocked if we see a few of those games bought out and go away.

When that North Texas series was scheduled in 2017 they were coming off a 9-5 season. Missouri State is coming off a 7-6 season. That's not appreciably different. Just because you don't recognize the name doesn't mean it is a bad opponent.

As far as the sheep game, I would rather see Wyoming beat the sheep on the fucking moon than play any given team in Laramie. It's a rivalry. I hate them. I hope the crabs of a thousand frat boys infest their cheerleaders. Would I prefer that game be in Laramie? Yes. Am I annoyed that we are going to the sheep pen first instead of them coming here? Also yes. However, the game was in the War last year. It makes sense that it's in the sheep pen next year.

But when the series was originally set to resume in 2028, that game is also in Fort Collins.

When the extra CSU game was added on this season, it meant we would have to play two back to back games in the same location. That could have been 2025 and 2026 in Laramie or 2026 and 2028 in For Collins. We ended up with the latter.

I am glad we are playing CSU. I actually prefer that game over UNT, but it should have been in Laramie.

Of course not. We are arguing that with a mediocre MWC, the OOC games are more important now than ever before. There are some decent OOC games on the horizon (regardless of when they were scheduled) and hopefully they don't get cancelled. Time will tell if we get future quality OOC opponents beyond 2036. I think this year isn't great, I am disappointed with what the MWC has become, and I am hopeful that quality football still lies ahead for UW despite a weak conference.

We had a home game scheduled with UNT. CSU had a road game with Indiana. That sure looks like we had the leverage to dictate the negotiations for playing the Border War in 2026. Instead Burman rolls over, plays dead, and gives CSU everything they asked for. We end up giving away a home game against a respectable opponent to go play in Fort Collins. Somebody tell me where we won this negotiation? We got exactly what we always get from Burman, a good poke right up the old arse.

What are you talking about? I follow small school football more than anyone I know. I literally posted in this very thread just how bad Missouri State has been over the past 30 years. They were a basement dweller in FCS and had no business making the FBS move that they did. Only reason they got an invite to FBS is because CUSA had to add teams for its survival and they were a taker when everyone else said no.
