Wyoming football: An early look at Appalachian State

I guess I am confused as to what "disadvantage" this puts our guys at? They were brought here to play football. They have an opportunity to go on the road into a area of the country we never go and play a game that we have a great chance to win. AT SEA LEVEL. That doesn't sound like a disadvantage. Going to Oregon and MSU is a disadvantage. Going to Lincoln to play the Huskers, that would be a disadvantage. Winners don't bitch about WHERE they have to go, they just go and win.

Traveling multiple time zones disrupts normal circadian rhythms and can influence performance.

And yet teams do it every single season and teams have tons of success...

This is just my opinion, do with it what you will. We went east and beat Tennessee. No one was bitching and whining about circadian rhythms then. This sounds like an excuse to me. An easy and early reason we may lose. :twocents:

You have to toss us 'Pokes fans out East a bone every once in a while. It's a whole lot easier for me to get to NC than it is Laramie and points West.

Still I agree with ISTBACSUR. Given our record that past 10 years, we're in no position to say no to a team that wants to play. That is unless the Wyo faithful are up for yearly trips to Moscow.

Read a little about the NFL. It is a big debate even at that level. Playing TN is not playing Appy State.

Excuse? No. Just a game that doesn't make sense. IMO, there is more than enough evidence to suggest that traveling time zones affects performance. Not to mention that this games precedes an in-conference rivalry game on the road (i.e. AF).

Since you brought it up. Yeah, we went on the road to TN and then got our asses handed to us at UNLV the following week. Makes ya wonder.

The timing and opponent are suspect at best.

That is assuming only Appy State wants to play us, though. I acknowledge that if that is the case, then, yes I get it. I just doubt that is the case.

Hate to say this but this game against App State is first one of a home-&-home deal with them. We host the Mountaineers in 2021.

I don't wonder. We traveled west last year and blew out FSU then came home and got blown out by Utah State. And you're right it is much different playing TN. They are a huge name and that was a game we should have lost but went out and took care of business. ITs all in prep and showing up.

I don't wonder. We went west last year and blew out FSU then came home and got blown out by USU. Its all about prep and showing up. It has nothing to do with scheduling and everything to do with we are a subpar team with terrible inconsistency. If we win in Appy State its great, if we lose we should have never played there, it was dumb and stupid and Burman should be fired. Sometimes UW fans are comical in their sense of our national worth.

Apples to oranges. We were favored against UNLV. We were big dogs to Utah State.

We discussed above. Nothing in it for them on the return trip, either. Just a weird game to schedule especially right before the AF game.

 Everyone here realizes App State was ranked higher than Wyo last year, right? Based on recent history, those guys have more of a right to bitch about playing us.

We were big dogs to TN. Its all about showing up and playing the damn game.

You could say that about approximately 105 other teams as well.

Sorry, just because we don't win games doesn't mean we are a nickel whore that has to turn tricks to anyone who winks at us.

If Appy State were in Nebraska, I'd have no problem with the game. I just don't think it is wise scheduling to go to the east coast for a game like this a week before the AF game.

Wait. Weren't you the one berating playing Oregon and MSU last year. Seems contradictory to this statement.

I thought that was exactly what it meant.

I was not stoked about it. But I also understood that those were scheduled long before Bohl showed up. I think he did a great job of getting the ragtag group of his recruits and CDCs to show up and play valiantly.

It's the same old song and dance. If we manage to put up a decent record against lesser teams we always say, "where are the better teams". Then when we get smoked by good teams we say, "why are we scheduling these body bag games"

Lack of success often makes it easier to schedule teams.

Not when strength of schedule is part of the determining factor for playoff entry.
For the next couple years, we need to not worry about playoffs. We're a Las Vegas bowl kinda team, not a New Years bowl kinda team. Let's focus on getting to 6 wins consistently
