Wyoming Fall Camp 2014

UW fall camp – Day 9

Once again, Wyoming started its ninth day and 11th practice of fall camp Tuesday with some 11-on-11 work as the team practiced in full pads. It was all passes by the offense, and it looked like the defense took a look at some different blitz packages.

Senior cornerback DeAndre Jones had a good session. He broke up a deep pass from redshirt senior quarterback Colby Kirkegaard to sophomore receiver Tanner Gentry deep down the field. Later, Jones jarred the ball loose from sophomore receiver Jake Maulhardt on a short pass over the middle.

Bohl, running backs/fullbacks coach Mike Bath and several other coaches can’t get over how nice the weather has been in Laramie for camp. Bohl said this is the “best place in America” to hold camp because the temperatures do not get too warm. Bath said it took him some time getting used to not having camp with temperatures in the 90s.

An NFL scout from the Atlanta Falcons attended Tuesday's practice.

More scouts... really curious who they're spending most of their time watching.

My guesses are:

Burns (he will be a shutdown corner with real coaching now).
Yarbrough (who wouldn't watch that kid?)
Olive because he isn't human.

Rufran because he is just a stud.
Wick because he almost rushed for 1000 yards with no O-Line.

I think Olive is going to be a great one, but he's not even starting right now...

Yeah, kind of funny how that is working out.

Everyone has been big on him since he committed to Wyo.
His two seasons here?
Red-shirted then was a backup.

Time for Uso to do work in the weight room AND the football field.

I'm a fan of Uso, but am quickly becoming a fan of Appleby. He's undersized, but holding his own. He also saw a tremendous change in his body this summer working with Duval. I remember seeing stuff from him on twitter. He was a fatty before Duval, but looks like a muscular stud now. I've tweeted with him a little after I got his camo jersey. He seems really excited that we know about him and his progress. I think the two of them (Chase will need to gain some more weight) will both be good guys for the next few years.

"I don't know if that's by chance, or because they're freshmen," Bohl said of the string of injuries. "The thing that has happened is our upperclassmen have done an excellent job during the course of the summer. We talk to them about finding a way to stay on the field, on the grass.

Several freshman defensive backs -- Chavez Pownell and Robert Priester, namely -- worked in with the top guys during Wyoming's nickel walk through on Tuesday.

"Between Chavez and Robert Priester, we'll probably take a look and see where we're at," Bohl said. "C.J. [Jennings] may be a little bit behind, but we'll take a look at those other two guys.

Wyoming freshman DT Jackson adjusting to 35-pound weight gain

How does one gain 35 pounds over the course of a summer?

If you’re John Jackson, the obvious answer is the correct one.

Jackson -- a freshman defensive tackle from Oro Valley, Arizona -- played defensive end at Canyon Del Oro High School last season, graduating in the spring at a lean 245 pounds.

When Wyoming's coaching staff told him they'd like him to shift inside to defensive tackle, the 6-foot-2 newcomer didn't have much of a choice.

After watching Bohl, I wanted to go back and compare him to DC with the Howdy Doody rant... no where to be found. That slimeball from Air Force who recorded it, took it off I guess. Darn.

Watching last year's recaps are painful. I didnt realize how shi%^* Christensen was until watching the highlights again. ANY kind of Time of Possession and we win the SJSU game. The Texas State game was totally overlooked. So painful to watch. Bohl is our coach and we win the SJSU game by TOP alone. DC was famous for letting the foot off the gas.

Anyway, I digress... looking forward to 2014.

I said it when we hired coach Bohl and I'll say it again. Our team got DRAMATICALLY better the moment Bohl signed that paper to come to WYO. Cc was horrible in most aspects of being a head coach. He was poor at game preparation and scouting. He was abysmal at adjustments after half time. Basic fundamentals and positioning were not taught. I could go on and on. But one thing we will inherit from him that is positive...talent. We are going to surprise some people. I haven't posted on JRods "2014 Predictions" yet but I will soon (I am sure you are all on the edge of your seat) but I believe we will be so proud of our men this year. (Like I was after the Nebraska game last season. I was mad we didn't win, but proud of how hard they fought to the end-and some of that credit should go to cc).

I hate to give the guy any credit, but I thought Christensen was actually pretty good at game prep. We would always hang around until halftime, even with the big guys.

He had a quote one time that said that no team makes adjustments at halftime. All of our failures in the 2nd half were a result of being out-executed in the 2nd half. THAT is one of the several reasons that Dave Christensen is a horrible coach.
