Wyoming @ Denver

We will still be fine in conference. I expect about 4-5 losses in-conference.

Not if we stand around on offense. I was shocked at the lack of motion. And the only real assist I saw was at the game's end when Waddell fed it off to Washington coming into the hoop. I expect most or all away games will be losses plus for sure UNLV, SDSU and NM at home. And Shyatt can't seem to see that a player is just not having his day (Cruz) and let him sit. The coming conferernce season is against the big boys now - won't be any Utah Valleys to bully then.

Washington could of had 30 tonite easily, the boys would not feed the beast consistently, no movement on O, to many 3's and we got out coached tonight. Live and learn, come out with a better effort next time.

Bottom line is that Denver is a good team this year and there are not too many teams that could go into Denver and beat them. Wyoming was in the game until the last 5 minutes and we still hadn't hit a 3 . Denver has an rpi rating of 23 and there schedule is ranked 39th toughest so far to date and they are 9-2 with that schedule. So anyone thinking this is a terrible loss doesn't know anything about college basketball. Yeah we could have won this game but just goes to show how tough it is on the road. Denver is by far and away the toughest non conference game we had. They would blow Colorado out. This was like a conference game on the road and is good for the team. Wyoming will be fine. If this game would have been in Laramie we would have won it.

We do need one more shooter from 3 though besides Martinez I think to really make us deadly.

I agree with this. The only thing I saw that we could improve on was we need to set better screens for our 3 point shooters. Our 3 point shooters also need to get themselves better prepared to shoot the ball immediately when they get the ball on a pass instead of trying to get themselves into position after they get the ball. I also think you create openings under the basket by driving the ball to the second level instead of passing around the perimeter.
As much as I dislike Scott (the DU coach), his teams are always tough to beat.

I thought our biggest problem was that our pick and roll game sucked. I don't think we got more than a basket out of it. Just seemed like really bad execution, with bad patience exhibited by the screener and bad decision making by the guards. Also, since our point guards are not great shooters we couldn't punish them for going under ball screens or force their big guys to hedge.

What really, really would have helped in this game is if we had a big guy who could shoot, so we could run some pick and pop stuff or otherwise force opposing bigs to work hard away from the basket. They were sagging off and making entry passes super difficult, so simple post play was really hard to get going (and I agree that our bigs esp. Waddell struggle passing out of double teams). I would have loved to see a big man stretch them out a bit. Lord knows our guards weren't making any shots.

Martinez aside we still just don't have guys that can shoot on this team, and Martinez is not someone who can create his own shot (4-22 in the last three games - guessing that teams are watching tape and figuring that out). Is Martinez a good enough passer to run pick and roll? Has to be worth a shot right?

We are a really, really good team without the ball and that is good enough to keep us in just about every game. But man, we are terrible with the ball. We are not a good shooting team and we have no perimeter athleticism to break defenses down. Our strength - the two big dudes down low - is easily negated if we can't punish teams for sagging/double teaming. However, I have to say that I trust Shyatt and staff to get the most out of the players they have. It's going to be brutal offensively but I still feel like they can squeeze enough blood out of that turnip to get to .500 or better in conference play.
