Well for starters, the game could be interesting because it pits the two lowest scoring teams in the conference (and in fact in the nation: Wyo 103rd, SDSU 101st). The Pokes have played one more game than SDSU and the conference stats are Pokes 68 pts for, 85 against. SDSU 48 for 63 against. In all games, Pokes 171 for 163 against, SDSU 153 for 211 against, so it averages out almost a dead heat.
Nationally, Wyo ranks 34th in rushing yardage to 51st for SDSU. But SDSU bests Wyo in passing yardage 34th to 88th. This is where I think the Pokes may falter - The Wyo secondary hasn't shown much this year. Most of any lack of passing yardage against Wyo has come because of the pressure on the QB. If SDSU closes this off -- trouble. Add that to the fact that it is an SDSU home game and a week rest -- look out.

A bowl game is going to be tough to get in the MWC this year for the Pokes.. they've lost to New Mexico and Air Force, basically eliminating the possibility of a tie-breaker if they finish with the same record. This year there's a lot of hens in the hen house.. Wyoming has to win out to get a sniff at a bowl. But in this parity ridden MWC, anything can happen.
Well its not quite that cut and dry and bleak. A win Saturday, and Wyoming is bowl eligible with 3 games to go. After the Vegas bowl is filled with the MWC champion, the remaining three can do whatever they want. If there are 4 or 5 remaining bowl eligible teams, they can choose any body they think will be a good opponent for their game, regardless of record or head to head matchups. Now, that said, Wyoming gets the shaft even when they are tied or ahead of others, so being the lowest of the eligible isnt a good idea for the Pokes, but you never know. New Mexico is the biggest bowl dud of all time, and dont draw any better then us fan wise. Also either the FTW bowl or the Poinsetta bowl was blabbing earlier this season about leaning towards Wyo should they get eligible. We'll see.

But by seasons end it's kinda looking like,
BYU will be 10-2
UNM will be 8-4
AFA will be 8-4
Utah will be 8-4
Then Wyo will be 7-5
and TCU will be 7-5
BYU gets Vegas Bowl
New Mexico will once again hit the UNM Bowl
AFA will go Poinsetta Bowling
And Utah will get the Fort Worth.
Leaving Wyoming and TCU with nowhere to go.

If I'm not mistaken, UNM can't play in their own bowl this year.
What an insane exception.. but nonetheless, that's the benefit to having a game in your own stadium. I'm rooting against them the rest of the way!

Someone on the MWC message board did a far better explaination of it last night and I'm too lazy to find the actual quote so....
But, you got the general idea.
Basically the NM Bowl can take UNM IF no other bowl takes them provided they are bowl-eligble plus they have a good enough record.
Too many politics with bowl game.. I like it being decided in the playoffs. Right now, no one's talking about Hawaii possibly crashing the BCS bowls this year.. not even getting a mention. Definitely don't like 'em.
Last year was absolutely ludicrous that Boise State finished undefeated and wasn't #1.. I can't name a single sport in the world where an undefeated is not the top ranked team.. anyone?

If your predictions comes to fruition, it is impressive that so many MWC teams have bowl eligible records. I think that reflects well on our conference. I really hope something crazy happens (like us beating BYU) and mixes it up enough for us to make it in to a bowl, but we just have to take care of our own business and let the chips fall where they may. Let's keep improving and end up with a positve season. GO WYO!!

Just keep winning folks, also start rooting for Nevada to lose, they are currently 5-4, Hawaii is likely going to a BCS Bowl game, Boise will be going to their bowl in Boise, Fresno will go to the NM Bowl, and if Nevada were to be ineligible that leaves the Hawaii Bowl bid WIDE OPEN!!!!!

Oh, I almost forgot to give my prediction for the game. (Not that anyone would have missed it)
Let's see, this game is SO up in the air for me. I feel we are pretty evenly matched with SDSU ( as much as it kills me to say that) So I am sure thier week off and home field advantage will help. I still say we squeak by barely with a Win in Quacomm. We need it so much more than they do, and we are SO due their. I would LOVe to see NO WYO turnovers tonight. Probably a pipe dream, just like seeing some less than obvious, non-crappy play callling. One can dream....
