WYO vs NM Game Thread

One thing I will say is that no one blows this Wyoming team out. They have been in every fricken game this year even the Ohio St. game until about 5 minutes left.

Wyoming is going to scare some people in the MWC tournament and I honestly would not be surprised if they won the thing. If we play New Mexico again with Adams back we will beat them. They will not beat us 3 times this year.

That's what I'm saying re moral victories. That's all we ever win and they are none. I can't handle anymore another word about "step in the right direction", "we'll be winning these games soon." I'm so sick of this shit in the three major sports. I know it's a process, and Rome isn't built in a day, but god damn it sometimes we're there and we don't take it.

It's pretty clear this coaching staff is clueless about how to foul at the end of a game and does nothing to prepare these guys. They wasted 20 seconds looking around at each other before they decided to foul someone. That is not acceptable.

That was pretty bad, but did you honestly watch this game and think the Wyoming coaching staff does nothing to prepare the team? I can assure you that New Mexico is the more talented team. Bigger, faster, stronger. Pokes kept themselves in it due to effort and preparation. They weren't perfect (way too many bad passes) by any means, but considering the team is operating without the head coach, it was a pretty solid effort.

Keep in mind the resource limitation that puts on the staff. Coaching college basketball during the season is more than a full-time job and to have to do it with 3 people instead of 4, particularly when the one missing is the leader? That's tough. Doesn't excuse the recruiting mistakes that put the team in this position, but I think the staff does a pretty good job.
My comment was in regards to late game fouls. The players shouldn't be looking to the coaches, confused about the situation. They should know that a four second difference between the game clock and shot clock is a go for the steal and foul right away if you don't get the steal situation. The players are clearly not prepared for these late game situations and it falls entirely on the coaches.

Not able to watch, just following on Gamecast. Looking like we are getting CRUSHED on the boards....13 total rebounds 3/4 through the game?? wow
For the last time- we are one of the best shooting teams in the nation and we play quick-transition defense. Rebounds, other than defensive ones, are practically meaningless. It's like focusing on 3rd down conversions with a team that scores on every possession in football.

I understand that, but when we have 13 defensive rebounds, and New Mexico has 11 offensive rebounds....that's not good. Giving up an offensive rebound results in the same outcome as a turnover. An extra shot for the opponent.

Take away 11 shots from New Mexico in a 4 pt game? Yes please.

Correct. We are a poor defensive rebounding team, which kills us. The lack of offensive rebounds is a strategic decision. The lack of defensive rebounds is a combination of personnel limitations and effort.
As a team, we definitely failed on the defensive board, which, heretofore upon, we've been proficient

Yes, tonight was much much worse than our previous conference games. Had we performed on the glass like we did the first time with UNM, we're looking at a double digit lead.

"And. What are you prepared to do about it?" Jimmy Malone (Sean Connery), The Untouchables

Did anyone else hear Dan Dickau say, "I had one good and one bad experience in this building."

He calls the entire UNM/Wyoming game @ the Pit without mentioning that Wyoming knocked his top 10 basketball team out of the NCAA tournament in that very building 11 years ago. He avoided that topic like the plague.

I'll bet Josh Davis, Marcus Bailey, and the rest of the boys we're laughing about that.

Man up Dickau, we all know what you're bad experience was. Go ahead and mention it next time you call a Wyoming game.

I wonder what Josh Adams was thinking during the game? His loss of control vs USu probably cost us the game. His penetration and defense would have made the difference.

That was a disppointing loss, we had this game in so many levels, I know with Josh things woulda been different, WE CAN play with them and aren't afraid of them by any stretch, any other team woulda folded. That last draw up for Larry I wasn't very impressed, he needs to go to the hole with more authority instead of finesse. Kick it out and have some other hot shooter hit the game winner. WE just ran outta gas in OT. Yes I'm happy we didn't get blown out, but there's no reason we can steal on in Vegas on Saturday. Come on guys learn how to finish at the end and get a couple of these. is it me or is that Duo they had on ESPNU god awful???
Take to the Rebels!!!! no reason we can't get that one!!!! damn disappointment anyway

I think we've learned not to put it in Granberry's hands with the game on the line. Choked twice in OT when we needed points badly.
There were a lot more chokes than granberry.... Grabau had two turnovers in OT, Sobry disappeared, and nance disappeared. Can't win if you're three remaining studs can't take care of business. I most definitely do not blame this on guys like granberry or hankerson. In fact it's because of their play we were in it at all

Yeah, Grabau turning the ball over was way worse than Granberry missing a quality look. Granberry hitting a big time shot is the reason the Pokes had a chance at OT.
Yeah, that post was me being frustrated. We should have won that game, but couldn't pull it out. This ended the way most of us thought it would; a close loss in an away game. I probably should have just taken a step back and calmed down before I posted anything

Not having Adams hurt us a lot more than just the points he would have gotten. It hurt us in the depth department and our lack of depth really showed at the end of regulation and throughout OT. Larry was so tired he could barely make it from one end of the court to the other. Several of our team gave it their all and had nothing left at the end.

Yup with Adams we win that game, I mean people stepped up so that was good but we needed Adams for that win. All in all Nana was double teamed and was not effective and no one picked up the slack. Also Nance had a terrible shooting night.

dude I'm really starting to agree here, it's time to put up or shut up....win some damn games, afterall isn't that what you are spozed to do????

Before the game half of Wyonation was saying we have no chance especially without Adams and Shyatt, and we should pretty much accept the loss.
Then after taking NM to OT in The Pit, those same people are freaking out about how we have no depth and how Nance shouldn't have taken that shot.
He has taken that shot A LOT and won many games for us because of it, but now it was a bad move?

Fickle fans. Ridiculous.

^^ this pretty much most people were saying how we had no chance etc I was on the other side I said the game would be close all game and go down to the wire and it did exactly that. If Nance would have hit the buzzer beater everyone would be praising the team right now.

But because of the loss everyone is talking about moral victories. Most of you had no faith they would even put up that big of a fight.
