WYO vs #23 USC

Most disappointing loss, IMO, for any Poke team in a long time, including the bowl game. But both losses were due to poor ball handling (or decisions) as the clock ran out, not because the other team was superior. So this is a problem that can be corrected.
This +1000. We were not outmatched last night. In some regards, we looked like the better "TEAM". USC had a few better athletes than us but we were the better team. Some nights the better team still loses. I am very impressed by this teams growth from game 1 to now. Give these guys two more months at this growth rate and we'll be dancing. This is the most excited I've been for Pokes basketball since Larry's senior year. This team has the makings of something special.

It was interesting reading twitter after the game. A lot of people were saying how good we looked, but a few folks were insulting with tweets in the vein of "USC must not be good if they almost lost to Wyoming"

YES!! Good. Let the masses continue to overlook us and not take us seriously. It'll make it so much more satisfying when we end up hoisting another banner next fall.

It was a lot of UCLA fans trying to troll USC, from what I saw

Any ideas on why Naughton didn't get any minutes from about 6 min left till end of game? I thought he was doing well helping on defense but didn't play at all at end of game or in overtime

This was the biggest issue in my opinion. When Naughton was in at beginning of the game Wyoming was up by 8 and Edwards took him out. Then at the start of the 2nd half Naughton played again and Wyoming came back from being down 6 at halftime and got a 6 point lead for a 12 point swing then Edwards took him out again at about the 13 minute mark and never put him back in. He was totally shutting down the lane and making it hard for USC to make anything inside and he was grabbing boards. Thought Edwards was going to give him maybe a 3 or 4 minute rest then put him back in and he never did. I don't understand it. Think if he plays the last 8 minutes Wyoming has a chance to win by double digits. If i could see this during the game I am not sure why Edwards couldn't. So I am wondering if Naughton was having problems or was hurt or something. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense to me. I can't believe the coaching staff couldn't notice this. Was frustrating as hell last night when he never was put back in the game.

Why was Lieberman in at the end of the game? I didn't get to see the game, but I know he's been terrible this year. He's likely our worst perimeter defender and he is nearly a negative on offense which is hard to do. He gave up an easy layup on the last defensive play then passed up giving our senior leader an open, but long range last shot to take a mediocre three on his terrible percentage. Edwards really needs to bench the kid until he can prove he can make 40% from 3, actually defend someone, and not make stupid plays over and over. Kelley has outplayed him this year and you can get the same offense with better defense from Marshall. I defended him this summer but his regression has really hurt the team this year. Improve your athleticism with Marshall or bring some stable play with Kelley.

Kelley wasn't playing all tournament because he hurt his ankle in practice and can't play. I also wouldn't say Lieberman gave up an easy lay up at the end of the game. That USC guard was good and made an incredible move that would have shook just about anyone on our team to get to the basket for that layup. Not saying Liebs should have been in the game but wasn't an easy layup it was just a great move by their guard. Guy that should have been in the game that I have stated about 100 times now is Naughton.

We gotta remember this is Edwards first year as a HC. He's gonna learn some things on the job ya know? As will our players in their new advanced roles. Our rookie coach is doing great! He's getting them to play his style and did he save some wrinkles until this tourney/conference??? That game last night just has me so optimistic about this squad. We're gonna be playing for the conference title baring more snake bites...........

I'm always for Naughton on floor. I've loved that dude's game since he first laced em up at UW. Can't argue that. With Adams hurt (that looks like a boot for bit to me 4-8 weeks??? :( ) do the pokes need to look to play bigger lineups? Still have JB and Momeka for that but they've gotta be able to run the court with the new style. With our depth also comes variety of lineups, I really love what's happening with UW hoops. Depth in squad at UW is killer with our home court advantage. We really do need to run and take it at teams, get em in foul trouble, and run some more. They will gas squads in Laramie. :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel:

I think Edwards is doing great also just mean it was frustrating as hell that I know we would have won by multiple points if Naughton plays the last 8 minutes and he was never put back in. Makes the loss hurt worse.

I think we have a shot to win the conference now and I would have never expected that at the beginning of the year. I like everything Edwards is doing. Just frustrated that we let that one get away last night lol

Yeah everyones a little upset by that loss last night. It hurt but it was gutty. I walked home feeling uplifted and excited about everything. I even liked Liebs last ballsy attempt, he got away with a little bit of MJ style push on that one too right??? I guess I'm just used to UW losing these style of games....comfortably numb?????

I'm afraid the Pokes will not sneak up on anybody moving forward after last night's game. The Pokes went toe-to-toe with a very athletic USC team. MWC foes are on alert. The Pokes looked very confident last night attacking the Trojans on the offensive end. A lot of people in the Twitterverse were impressed with the Pokes after last night's performance. Those minimizing USC's win and the efforts of Wyoming last night are your typical hoops illiterates on social media. Ignore 'em. The Pokes made huge strides, but can still get much better, obviously (e.g. taking care of the basketball; not leaving your feet early defensively, etc.)

Justin James' post-game comments were those of a very confident kid and team. This team has the potential to do some damage.

One of my favorite things about last night....our players with arguably the most pro potential showed up big in front of NBA scouts.

It was the first game I actually got to watch, instead of just listen to on the radio. Sure, the Pokes lost, but I was impressed. I don't know if we have the seasoning that the team 2 years ago had, but I really like the upside.

I thought it was telling that the announcers on TV were basically talking about the game's quality as comparable to an NCAA Tournament game. Did anyone else notice that they explicitly assumed that both teams ought to get at-large invites based on the eye test, if nothing else.

Most importantly, I take great comfort in the fact that our Pokes are still in the Top 25 nationally in team field goal percentage defense. That is after we dropped a long way after USC's runout layups. That, fellow Poke fans, is a really good sign for the rest of the season.

Any defensive stat for UW that lands in the Top 25 is a sign this team will only get good>better>to tits on a Ritz>to really Amazing! :)

I know this is still a ways off, but a win over a ranked USC team would play a big role in where WYO lands in the post season especially with everyone considering the MWC trash this year. I guess they'll just have to win the conference.
