I think the honest to goodness truth is that we lost because we are incredibly weak at rebounding and because our most inefficient scorers are the ones taking the shots. I know we've never been decent at rebounding, but here is something to think about for this game. We actually shot roughly the same percentage from the field as CSU and actually quite a bit better from 3 in today's game. So why did we lose 15? Because CSU attempted 17 more shots than us. We honestly didn't commit than many more turnovers than them, but they got 11 more offensive rebounds then we did with the minimum potential of 22 more points. I don't think it's a matter of talent or even a matter of experience.
While probably not so much the difference in this game, another thing that I think we the team needs to address is offensive efficiency. Sobey and Adams have the worst offensive rating and effective FG percentage of any players on our team that gets significant playing time, and yet they combined for over half of all our shot attempts shooting a combined 36% while the rest of the team shot 65%. Now I understand that part of the issue is that we don't have a ton of guys who can get off their own shots, and truthfully Sobey actually didn't play all that bad today either, but I don't know why we don't run an offense that centers on giving Grabau (far and away the best shooter on the team), Cooke, or even Granberry easier looks. As long as our offense runs primarily through our most inefficient players we will continue to have frustrating games.
