WY vs. Minnesota

American Horse

Well-known member
Poke wrestlers in action Saturday against #1/2 Minnesota. This is the second dual of the year for the Cowboys, both against top 10 teams. This looks to be a real tough one for the Pokes to win but I am sure they will bloody some noses and compete. Get out and support these guys and program (the most successful one at UW) if you can.

Good luck to the Pokes. Colgan's got to take on #1 Ness this week after doing battle against #2 Green last week. Poor dude.

Cowboys wrestling to host No. 1 Minnesota on Saturday (WyoSports.net)

The University of Wyoming wrestling team started the season with a 22-12 home loss to No. 11-ranked Nebraska last Friday.

But that was simply the appetizer to Wyoming’s main course in its nonconference schedule.

The Cowboys are scheduled to remain at home Saturday, hosting No. 1 Minnesota at 5:30 p.m. at the UniWyo Sports Complex. The dual will mark the first time in UW history it has hosted the top-ranked team in the country.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for our program to host a team like Minnesota,” Wyoming coach Mark Branch said.

I'd give my right arm to be in Laramie tonight, but I can't make it. Really looking forward to the Stroh match, he needs to beat Pfarr if he wants to be in the top 10. It will also be interesting to see how Colgan handles #1 Ness. McCulley has a track record of big upsets when he is wrestling well. To be realistic, a succusful dual would be to keep Minnesota to less than 25 points and for Wyo to score more than 10 points. Either way, I'm hoping for the upset, and I'm sure our Pokes won't disappoint. GP POKES!!

Rough match up for the Pokes.

Real disappointed in Cox. Almost got stuck 3 times, and just generally got his ass kicked. Seeing Drew score the upset was great though!

Edit: I guess Drew did'nt have the #3 guy after all, my mistake

Couldn't be there but watched on computer. Pokes got handled but that was somewhat expected. I loved how Coach Branch called it like it is and pulled no punches in his interview after the dual. There were some bright spots and this team will rebound, it's a long way until the NCAAs. Nice to see a #1/2 team travel to Laramie. The Pokes are learning what it takes to become an elite program.

Good old fashioned ass kicking. Thought this program would be farther along at this point in Branch's tenure.
