On a windy day in October...after scoring a touchdown, Wyoming finds a new home for their old cannon:

i was thinking the same thing watching those flames on the south scoreboard on Saturday
Yeah, when the wind picked up, looked like the flames were about to set the trees on fire. For the entrance onto the field, it was fine. For every touchdown, especially with Wyoming wind, its a disaster waiting to happen.

I was thinking of you when those roman candles went off during the intro.....how'd you handle that?

Maybe I had one too many beers after work today........but I have a total butthurt on over this cannon situation

dumb dumb dumb......we have some traditons and yet one going by the wayside!!!!!! figure out a way and get it back!!!!

They didn't play cotton eyed joe either. I don't know if that was because of the lighting delay.

2. We love lightening delays (This never happened until that NM game a few years ago. Never). And now twice.

The weather delays have hit other schools as well....like Michigan State, I believe, this past weekend. Last Thursday nights NFL opener in Denver was delayed so....don't blame UW for it blame the weather.

Plus I think a lot of our traditions are getting killed off because the university is afraid of getting sued.

Hell.....I honestly believe that is a major part of why this country has a shitload of problems....fear of getting sued.:tickedoff:

I'll get off my soapbox now.

We've had thunderstorms the last week or so (going back to Thursday), and today it had been raining off and on all day, as well as thunder and lightning on occassion.

Whenever I have taken someone to a Cowboys game that had never been to one, the cannon was one of my favorites because they never expected it and they always jumped. They really messed up in taking it away.

Haven't seen anything on this (other than here). Will be interesting to see if the 12-guage shotgun stays, or they bring back the big dog.

I'm the MC at the CJC auction tonight. I'll see if I can pry some information on this out of the people that have the power to do something about it.

i was thinking another solution would be to build some baffles between the muzzle and the scoreboard (not unlike a flowmaster delta flow) that are setup to absorb the damaging frequencies

it would be effective and look like a piece of art

That is a great idea! But too far "out of the box" for Wyoming thinking. Easier to just downsize.

The official word I got from the CJC is that people were complaining that it was too loud, and complaining that it MAY be damaging the video board. Blue hairs with deep pockets strike again >:(

The big cannon may be gone, but nature strikes. Little cannon = lightning delays and some serious thunder! Lame, I know.

Pretty sad that something like this wins out over tradition, if we don't have tradition wtf do we have? I can't ever remember not having the cannon go off after every score.
