A story about a new recruit that will wrestle for the Pokes next fall... http://billingsgazette.com/sports/high-school/wrestling/tournament-notebook-chinook-s-ben-stroh-chasing-th-state-title/article_b9774b13-fc1f-5a10-a143-cd5ca5ab0d9d.html

You know you have a strong program when you can bring in young men like this.

Is it my imagination, or does it just seem like some really good wrestlers, unlike really good basketball players, come from small rural programs?

Here's the follow-up article after he won his 4th straight: http://billingsgazette.com/sports/high-school/wrestling/zeiger-schlosser-and-stroh-win-th-titles-forsyth-repeats/article_e16fd05d-3545-5d76-a4dc-d8e5d98e9d9f.html

I'm glad he's coming to wrestle for Wyoming! Notice the first article mentioned Butte's Cole Dallaserra, who also wrestled for the Cowboys. UW has good luck recruiting quality wrestlers from Montana.

His brother wrestles for Wyo, Robert RS freshmen 149/157. :thumb:
He was a 3 time state champ, runner up his freshmen year.

This is a good point. Several coaches (and employers too) that I have been associated with have all said kids that come from rural backgrounds have better attitudes and work ethics. There are definitely exceptions, but this is a generalization. What they do lack is experience playing or competing against the high level of competition in urban areas.

Just speaking for what I get to see every day the best players that Montana football have had the last 5 years most have come from small, rural communities with blue collar attitudes (Havre, Butte, Hardin, and Baker).. all are now successful players in the NFL.. wrestling isn't much different. I'm glad that Branch recognizes this and is recruiting as such.

Yep, I think Coach Branch put his brother in a couple of duals in the last half of the season, and if I'm not mistaken I think he won them both.

My favorite quote from the first article above:

"You have to push everybody until you break them," said Stroh, whose career record is now 154-2. "I have that mentality. If you can capitalize on another guy's mistakes, you're bound to win."
