Worst MWC ever?

Yes. Until next year. Then the conference becomes the worst in FBS. We are getting rid of best teams SDSU, Fresno and Boise and adding teams that are ranked over 150 in the computers 2-6 Northern Illinois and 2-6 UTEP.

I"m a Wyoming fan first...how good the conference is has always been a wierd thing to feel good/bad about. Obviously...if you are in a good conference it's more likely you are a good team but I'm a Wyoming fan...not an MWC fan.

As a Wyoming fan I want to win conference games and compete at the top of the conference often. We almost had a .500 run the 10 years prior to Sawful. Sadly we are basically a perpetual loser program in conference play and have been for nearly the entire existence of the MWC. I will accept some down years just like we did with Brandenburg, but I also crave some good seasons as well.

I’ve pretty much given up and continue to lose interest realizing how far away we continue to be from success.

It’s Sunny time for the next few months. I see football at 5-7, but I wouldn’t count Nevada in Laramie as an easy win.

So then next year should be no big deal, right? Conference doesn't matter, right?

A few things I enjoy about Wyoming football:
  • Beating and having a rivalry with CSU
  • Beating and having a rivalry with BYU
  • Beating and having a rivalry with AFA
  • Winning a conference championship
  • Being in the mix for a conference championship
One thing I don't care about:
  • How good the overall conference is
It will be enjoyable if Wyoming dominates whatever lessor conference we end up in...but the loss of the rivalries of my youth wiegh heavily on me. If Wyoming had won a chip in a year that we lost the boot, that sticks in my craw. Winning a conference that doesn't even include historical rivals is even more wierd. I'll be glad if it happens but...something will be missing.

Reality is the byu rivalry since the start of the MWC is mostly a 1 way street. Just a you feel something is missing without your real or perceived rivals, for some of us, something is missing when we step back to the newest fcs-in-strength conference.

I agree with this completely....I just go further and name it.

That something, for me, is historic and long lasting regional rivalries that my Dad and my extended family from those places cared about before I was born. If those are preserved, and the conference within which they exist sucks balls I am pretty sure I still care deeply about beating them and winning that conference. My enjoyment of Wyoming football is barely diminished in that case.

That is not the case if there is a future in some sort of unrecognizeable arrangment with teams like Northern Illinois and Grand Canyon "university". I'll enjoy a chip if we get one with that group but it just won't be the same and it has nearly zero to with how good that group is. To take this in some sort of nonsensical direction...imagine Wyoming winning an SEC title...pretty awesome right? I agree with that because that would mean something about how good Wyoming is in a vaccuum but this fan grew up in the '80s and '90s playing Utah and BYU and CSU and AFA .... I would miss that. Maybe you wouldn't...everyboy is a fan for thier own reasons.

In theory only, if we could trade places with byu and Utah, I would in a heartbeat. In that case, I'd trade all historical rivals for a better conference. To each their own.
