Williams

We can't really be surprised this rumor started to begin with, there's so many things that were going on that made him leaving seem plausible.

If he does leave, the next question is why? The press release will say personal reasons. But is roster space needed for a transfer?

I hope he sticks it out, Wyoming is going to be great for him. If You don't believe me, ask the seniors.

If true this is going to make next year more difficult. I know people will say it's hard to miss someone who never played but if you're going to be a "developmental" program it's really hard to put in a lot of time on a prospect like a redshirt year, only to have that player leave. Attrition will really put us behind the 8 ball unless we can land an impact transfer or juco player, and I'm not sure there's many of those left at this point. It's one of the reasons I'd like to see the staff bring in a little bigger mix of prospects. The reality is if you sign a class of 4-5 HS players, 1-2 will likely always end up leaving for some reasons. Just the nature of the beast.

This sucks. We are going to be super thin at the forward/center position. However, I'm not really surprised because we didn't see him on the bench at all during the 2nd semester or in Vegas. Dang it. I was really looking forward to seeing him play.

Very valid point...we talked about it (on this board) - what the best way to build a program is, and this came up. I am still of the thought / camp that if you only recruit & develop HS athletes, you will be successful (MWC championship competitive successful) about every 4 years...and so far at UW, with Shyatt, that is exactly what we have gotten.

2 of our senior starters this year though were not HS signees though, Hank and DC. I think we can be successful with the strategy but even just having 1-2 of your HS bigs leave it can really jeopardize your gamble on a class coming together every 3-4 years that is supposed to compete for the conference title, unless you're able to land some impact players through other means to replace them.

keep the ones that wanna stay and build on this confidence for at least a NIT berth next year, if not more, at least 20 wins is what I'd wanna see

If Shy is going to fill the void, he should use the opportunity to even the recruiting classes a little if possible. Losing 4-5 guys on a bball team every few years is tough. You aren't "reloading" after losing that many dudes. You're "rebuilding".

we are a rebuild year after year, unless we recruit young players to build together then maybe good things are in the works

Even recruiting classes would help us out of the rebuild year in and year out. Graduating 5 seniors one year, then only one the next is a bit disproportionate. Granted, we've had some attrition and that hurts...but we to bring in a recruiting class that gels instantly and wants to stay together for 4-5 years. From following twitter the last few years, this incoming class seems closer than previous. Let's hope they all decide to stay together.

once we taste the fruits of our labor by hard work shown this year, sure we're gonna be a bit spoiled, but i only want hard work, dedication and love for the wear of the Wyoming uniform!!! we'll be ok me thinks, lol

If true. I would like to see us find a 5th year senior to come in right away like Granberry did 2 years ago. Obviously perferably a big man. That would help even out the classes a bit. I wonder who is available. Isn't there a site that shows the transfers.

I was going to say all of that. Getting a 5th year guy goes a long ways in balancing the classes plus if there's a couple awesome players we wanna recruit we could. Instead of just 1.

It's on verbalcommits.com

This could end up being good or bad just depends on who they could still get to come in.

Probably won't happen but if they could grab that Boucher kid from Powell then it would be great. Doubt it will happen but who knows?

Word on the other board is that Williams is not returning next year. I cannot verify.

It has been confirmed that Tyrell Williams will not be back next year. It was mentioned that he was not with the team very much as the season went along so he could work on his grades, and from what I understand it was his grades that will not have him back next year. I wish him all the best in his future.

There are a number of rumors, but Coach Shyatt in an interview said that there would be 5 maybe 6, or 7 new players on the team next year. So with Williams not coming back, that makes it 6. But I also understand that acouple of players need to work on their academics, they got behind somewhat due to the schedule of being away.

I know that the coaches are looking at some JC big men, hopefully we can land a good one or two.

With Williams gone it would be great if they could get a %th year senior big man to come in and play right away and help even out the classes but those are probably not gonna be easy to find.

As far as the 7th new player he could very well be talking about a walk-on. We have always had one or two walkons on our team and we are losing both that we had this year so time to pick up another one. At least I hope we don't lose anyone else.

Is McManamen a schollie player? Or is he covered by Hathaway?
