Will UW athletics push for a sell-out this week?

just listening to AD Burman on KFBC and this game is not sold out nor does he expect it, unless a huge walkup crowd, just saying

That is absolutely pathetic. The biggest game in the WAR in how many years?? and we can't fill it. Shame on us cowboy fans. pathetic. And shame on you Burman...you're in charge...great job.

I agree. The AD has done a piss poor job of marketing and creating a sellout atmosphere but at the end of the day it's up to Cowboy fans to fill the War. I never understood the argument, "well wait after we've been winning a few more years and fans will come back." No, we are tied for first place RIGHT NOW. This is it, it doesn't get bigger than this. Next year is not guaranteed that we will be better. Allen could break his collarbone again, Hill leaves early and suddenly we aren't as good. This is it, not a year or 3 from now. If we can't sellout this game or come damn close the Wyoming fanbasr is even worse than I thought.

with you 100%. I thought the same thing..."we won't fill the WAR until we start winning again." Welp...we're winning...we are tied for 1st in the Mountain division. we are undefeated in conference play. we are well coached and it's a good product we are putting on the field......crickets.....SMH. shameful.

say we win this one and having trouble selling out for a 5PM k/o, there's NO way next week against Utah State and a 6-2 4-0 record, NO way will we sell out a 8:15PM game for that neither, sad, but it's what TV has done for us

Yep. It's what TV money has done. There's some story of Bo Schembechler growling about that way back in the day when this was just starting to happen: "Toe meets leather at noon. If you want to have cameras there, feel free."

Very few programs, if any, have the leverage to even mildly control that. Everyone wants the money, but I sure miss being able to plan out a whole season of sitting in the stands at the same time every afternoon.

Tv rules the roost and our program couldn't survive without it.

Given the economy in Wyoming we should feel fortunate to have the fans attending that we do.

If TV was blacked out within 150 miles (or so), the game would more than likely sell out. Or have already sold out. And I am not sure I agree with Burman's sentiments of not selling out at this point. The Wyoming walk-up crowd is notoriously large.

That said, why, for the love of god, wouldn't Burman have said, "game is going to probably sell out - better get your tickets fast"??!! Instead, he mumbles along with some bullshit line about it not selling out, ho hum. Shit.

All these arguments I totally agree with, it's just too bad our fan base doesn't truly get behind our Pokes, afterall I thought it was about getting butts in seats, this was a piss poor marketing strategy going into tomorrow. Oh well, just hope our Pokes don't lay an egg!!!!!

T.V. certainly has a lot to do with it. Being average to below average for the better part of 20 years has a pretty big impact too. The last time we played for a conference title was 96, when we won our division. After that we've had Dimel, who always lost the last game of the year(usually to Tulsa) and didn't make bowl games with 9-3 teams, Vic who may have the worst record as any head coach in Wyoming history, Joe Glenn who beat BCS teams but couldn't beat Utah, TCU, or BYU and DC, who had some success with Glenn's defensive recruits, but was an embarrassment to the school with his behavior and took our defense to unprecedented levels of suck.

I think a lot of fans believe that we'll get blown out by Boise on Saturday, and aren't going to attend a home blow-out. The only thing that will change that is a few years of sustained success where we finally beat the elite teams in this league. We haven't done that since Joe Tiller was here and we haven't done it consistently since Paul Roach was the coach.

Yeah, t.v. is a big part of it, but 20 years of average to miserable football is just as big of a part of it. There are still a lot of people that don't believe we can win the MWC at football.

Someone in the know on the other board mentioned the typical good walk up crowd is about to 1500. I think Burman said we'd need a walk up crowd of 4500 to sell out. So I don't know how large that walk up crowd really is.

TV and I think even more the late start in late October have something to do witt it. But you're implying there is this large, untapped reservoir of Wyoming fans on there starving for success and a few more years of winning will bring them back. I just don't know if that is true. If you're a Wyoming fan starving for success, this is the ultimate opportunity on Saturday. We may get our butts kicked like usual, and i think that's more probable than us winning, but this is it. It doesn't get bigger than this. We heard the same BS a few years ago when we never sold out for a good basketball team. I don't think we sold out a BYU game since the very early 90s. It appears to me we're only selling out premium non conference opponents....which is a travesty.

You're implying that there's a large, untapped reservoir of fans not attending because it's on t.v. You're implying there's a large untapped reservoir of Wyoming fans that aren't attending because it's a 5 p.m. kick-off.

The reality is, it's a combination of the three. The kick-off time is not ideal, especially if you're driving a significant distance. The football team has been shitty for 20 + years. Boise beats us in Laramie by an average of 30 points a game. Why drive to a game and watch us get blown out by Boise at 5:00 at night?

I am implying that there are a lot of Wyoming fans saying, "prove it" and staying home, because they aren't going to travel to Laramie to see us get blown out by one of the conferences elite teams AGAIN. That's reality. I know several people that are using this game as a measuring stick to see if the team is for real, and most of those guys are the ones I actually played football with.

Yeah, the less than ideal kick-off time has an effect. So does sucking balls at football for the last 20 years. If we won at football for the last 20 years, we would have built our fan base, not BURNT it to the ground.

Losing for the 20 years leading up to this game is probably the biggest factor in why it's not going to sell-out. If we had the success Boise did for the last 20 years, this game would be a sell-out.

8 sections sold out with the additions of student section that will be nearly 16 sections full and currently 10 sections that are near sold out.

Should be a good crowd although shy of a sell out

Unless they have a much larger walk up than AFA, this game isn't going to be close to AFA attendance. AFA was almost sold out by this time on Friday. There are way more available seats for this game.

I am convinced a run of three, hell maybe even two years of contending for championships would sell out stadiums for good opponents. Bottom line is we don't know. When is the last time we've had sustained success in either program (consecutive years of actually being in the championship hunt)? Serious question. Since the early McClain years in bball and even longer in football?

I'm convinced if you build it they will come in hoards.

I just don't think people see Wyoming as a contender this year because Boise is perceived as so much better than us. It's keeping some people away so far. Once people really think we can be champions they'll be there.

Big part of why ticket sales were ahead is it was homecoming. Lots of people that could only attend one game chose that one months in advance. Ticket sales will finish stronger this game than AFA

You might be right, but they'll need an additional 2500 walk-up to match the AFA crowd.
