Why Wyoming Can Beat Nebraska [WyoNation Blog]

Martinez also has many flaws as a passer, a poor throwing motion that looks more like a shot put than a proper release, he throws off his back foot, he stares down his primary receiver and has a hard time reading defensive coverages (especially intermediately over the middle).

Did this guy watch Martinez at all last year? If this was 2012 and last year was 2011, the guy would be pretty spot on but Martinez made huge strides as a passer last year.

Theres a reason he was a All Big Ten QB last year.

Not to mention, that article completely forgets mention of a Nebraska running game that should run all over the place.

Like I've said before, if someone says something about Nebraska that isn't completely kissing their ass, Nebraska fans FREAK OUT

Not really, but when things are wrong, people will call them out.

Its the exact same thing as when us Husker fans don't kneel to the god known as Brett Smith and you guys jump down our throat.

Sans Ohio State? You brought it up....

You misinterpreted my point, let me step you through it.

By sans Ohio State I meant the Big 10 is not generally known for scoring a lot of points in games, Ohio State will probably score more points this season than any team in Big 10 history. That's why I excluded them. I wasn't referring to how many points the Husker D gave up, though Wisconsin did put on a scoring display.

Lol.... I never misinterpreted your point. You asked if Husker fans were concerned about the amount of points Nebraska allowed in a conference not known for giving up point, sans Ohio State?

The answer is no... no we are not. Because they Huskers don't give up a lot of points to inferior opponents, like Wyoming.

But... there are two teams from the Big Ten which score a lot of points, Nebraska and Ohio State. That's bad news for Wyoming since their defense is a dumpster fire.

You conveniently didn't mention Wisconsin. If you're going to talk about defensive dumpster fires, but also refer to yourselves as an elite team I suggest you form a coherent sentence.

We're not elite. Did a Nebraska fan actually say we were? I missed it if so, but I doubt anyone would make that claim about our team.

Nebraska is not an elite Top 10 type team, but lets be real people.....we're conveniently forgetting a lot of things about Wyoming too. This team is coming off a 4-8 season in which its largest win was by 14 points at home over Colorado St. We speak of this "vaunted offense" that will put up lots of points on Nebraska, yet you look back to 2012 and realize Wyoming only scored 30+ points three times the entire season. Not bad obviously, but anyone thinking Wyoming is going to "tear up" the Husker defense is simply ignoring the reality of the past and basing their argument off of what COULD happen and not actual occurrences.

And how many times have we done this here? The defensive and offensive lines have been garbage for majority of the CDC era, and EVERY YEAR we think, "this is the year they make the jump and improve" and every late September, fans are ready to light guys like Chris Tormey on fire and drag his body through the streets of Laramie.

Everyone believes they can win in week one. Nothing wrong with that, but its disingenuous to point out Nebraska's flaws (and they do have them) but then conveniently forget that this Wyoming team fell severely short of expectations last fall.

I'm expecting the Pokes to go bowling this fall, but lets take it a step at a time. Wyoming is far from perfect themselves.

It is your team too dip shit you go to this school. It must be nice to be able to jump on any band wagon you want to. College athletics are not professional sports, you can't just pick who you like, you have a school and that is YOUR TEAM. If you don't like Wyoming then transfer and get the hell out and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. You and all of the other jokes that call themselves fans are the biggest phonies in America, if you were a true fan you would be going for the Cowboys in this game, but instead you are a bandwagon douche bag that can't even have enough self respect to root for his own school.

Captain Kirk couldn't tear up a pro day. Pretty bad when a redshirt senior is 4th on the depth chart behind a Jr, So, and true Frosh.

You must bow down to the Mighty Huskers and respect us, man oh man get over yourselves. Not even Texas fans were this White and Orange colored glasses biased. WE DO respect you, we know it's a tall order, but if you are trying to sell the Husker philosophy and Nation to us, we don't have to like it either, just like you don't have to like what we say either.
Know that it's the 1st game of the season and anything can happen, now if we had 2-3 games under both belts then maybe we'd have more of a feel, what happened in the past was just that, stats from the last few years do not tell us about what is going to to happen. Let's just wait and see and go from there. 1985 is a long time coming for a defeat in a home opener, but last time I checked we weren't going into the Rome Colisseum for life and death, it's just a game

Im not going to defend some of this "husker fans" post as he is being kind of a dick in some of them but...

If I went to college somewhere other than NU, and that team played NU, I as a person who grew up in Nebraska as a big Nebraska fan would go to the game and root for my Huskers.

Going to college somewhere else does not mean you have to give up your allegiance and love of the team you have followed your entire life.

JRod, you are completely missing the point. This is a Wyoming message board. And if Wyoming fans want to think we have a chance, it is our right....and our board. We all know how we finished last year....and most of us know that record could be turned around if Brett was healthy the entire year. But, the bottom line is "THIS IS A WYOMING MESSAGE BOARD" and we think we can win......some of us anyway.

Go Pokes!!

Does Chad Smith know Martinez has improved over the last two years, much like Brett Smith has improved. Hopefully over the next two years, Mr. Smiths blogging skills will improve as well.

And our Stadium isn't called War Memorial. So hopefully your team doesn't show up at the wrong stadium on saturday! :thumb:

Note that Chad Smith doesn't hide behind a screen name. He made very good points. Do you fusker fans realize that Martinez is and always will be a mediocre passer? You can win all the games in the world, but that doesn't make you a good QB. (Think Tebow)

Actually that is a good catch on the stadium name.

You are wrong on martinez though he has upgraded from terrible to bad. He is a vanity QB who pads his stats against losing teams. Look at the splits.

Do you "Cowgirl" fans realize we have a running game as well? In all seriousness, I hope Smith doesn't go down this year, because your team would be in a world of hurt, and Beaver wouldn't have anyone else on the team to cheer for.

Like the other Nebraska fan, you are having a reading comprehension problem. Where do I say Wyoming WOULD beat Nebraska? I'm pretty sure I wrote Wyoming COULD beat Nebraska. Do you know the difference? With a fan boy username like T-Magic I am guessing you don't.

A good Qb is subjective to the offense they are playing.

For the Zone read/spread offense that Nebraska runs, TM is a great QB. For the pro style attack that a team such as USC runs, TM would be a bad QB.

Taylor Martinez is not Peyton Manning, and nobody claims he is, but he runs our offense efficiently and makes many of the throws that he attempts. His throwing motion has gotten significantly better, he no longer throws off his back foot and is much much better at reading defenses than he was in 2011. My issue with this article is that he points out a bunch of things that were absolutely correct in 2011, but fairly off base in 2012.

As a side note, Brett Smith is not Peyton Manning either. I went back and watched some highlights and he has happy feet like Martinez used to, and has a very short arm delivery style which is just as weird as Martinez. Ive said before in another post that BS is the better pro prospect obviously but Martinez is not a terrible QB.
