Why is anyone surprised?

I have made a small fortune betting against our boys this year. I don't believe coaching is the problem. Glen did win a bowl game with Vic's guys. The problem is the recruiting. We have the slowest team I've ever seen. I won't reiterate the obvious. We've seen it for a year and 1/2.

Here's how I see it: Burman has to decide if we are going to be a competitve D1 program or not. That means spending some real dough on a coach. We need to bring in a big time coordinator/recruiter and ante up at least 750k a year plus adequate funding for a staff.

The jury is still out on his BB hire. Although I think Schroyer will prove to be a disappointment. We can't pay coaches D2 salaries and expect D1 results. Glenn should have been gone at the end of last year. His shenanigans during the Utah game were an embarrassment to the school and the state. I said as much only to hear what a great asset he is to the school and the state. The bottom line is he and his staff can't recruit. They bring in a D1 walkon at QB and we expect him to be any good?

I will no longer support the CJC until our AD steps up and brings in someone who has shown some innovation as a coach (like a Dennis Erickson) or a proven coordinator in a BCS conference. We have 4 or 5 more losses to absorb and then the work can begin. By the way, if we can't afford it, then it's time to drop down and compete with the Montana's and North Dakotas in whatever league their in.

I agree with the recruiting, our recruiting classes continually finish about 100th in the nation, which is where we are ranked about now. I have chalked some of that up to the "experts" not giving players in our area enough credit for their ability. Even if that was the case, we don't have top 25 talent and that should be the goal. Does anyone know the last time we were ranked in the top 25 nationally? I don't expect to be there every year but once in a while would be nice.

I think our salaries are competitive with the rest of the MWC, but if it takes more money, then I am fine with that, the state has a ton of it now. I love football, and I think college football is the most exciting version or it. So that being the case, I follow the Wyoming Football team more than any other team on earth. So it is painful to watch them be this bad. As a Wyomingite, it is also a matter of pride, we are smart, tough, hardworking people who deserve a better representation on the field. We have to find a way to get a winning tradition back, whether it be double the salary to get the best coach and recruiters, whatever. I wouldn't be in favor of dropping a division (although the thought of playoffs would be nice), I would be more in favor of switching conferences because we obviously can't compete with the rest of the MWC right now or in the near future, with the plan of returning after we have remembered how to be winners again. I am angry and will probably change my mind tomorrow, but that is how I feel today.

GO POKES, BEAT UTAH...

I don't think $750K is going to do it. Remember Alabama pays $4M/year to Saban. I personally think that is absurd but look what he is accomplishing (#2 in his second year). The precedent has been set and WYO is way off a reasonable rate. $1.5M could get a big name in here - one that recruits would take notice of and say "Wow." The money exists in the state and if a winning product gets put on the field/court people will come in MASSES. Just look at what happened to the women's basketball team with the NIA... Put a good product out, one that can compete for a MWC championship and I would be more than willing to double what I pay for my season tickets and you can pay for that winning coach organically with increased ticket revenue. Can't put the cart in front of the horse though...

your right 750k won't get the Nick Saban's of the world, but he couldn't have done the same thing with Wyoming. I am all in favor of shelling out whatever we need to for the best college football coach available (even Saban type money) with our next hiring (still hoping Glenn can turn it around), but from what I have seen there are good coaches making much less than we are currently paying. I don't want a good coach, we need the best college coach, recruiters, facilities, trainers, etc available whoever that may be. We do need to go all out to fix this thing.

Uhh.. Wasn't Erickson coach at Wyoming already once? And he pissed people off when he left suddenly.

From Wikipedia:

He took his "Air Express" form of the spread offense with him to Division I-A Wyoming in 1986 for a single season. While at Laramie, he promised the fans of Wyoming a long tenure, then immediately accepted the head coaching job at Washington State
