Why don't people come to the games

uw has ten thousand students on campus, so we should be filling up around a third of the stadium. Why don't students go? Because you get kicked out for doing next to nothing. The university has ruined the game day expearince by allowing the cops in laramie to simply eject anyone that is getting remotely rowdy at the game. I just don't see why being rowdy at a college game is a bad thing. In all honestly chanting obscenties is part of wyoming tradition, getting blacked out drunk is part of tradition, and being one of college sports rowdiest sections is part of our tradition. So much of who we are seems lost now and I only fear the student section as whole will be come even bigger pussies since most students are afraid to get arrested, fined, or kicked out of one of the premier social events at the university.

Seriously, how rowdy do you have to be to get kicked out? Me and my friends have been pretty bad and never even got a warning.

And no matter what, you're never going to get even close to all students showing up at the games. I knew a lot of students who thought sports were stupid and they were upset at how much money was spent on the facilities, completely failing to see how much money's been brought in to the rest of the university BECAUSE there are athletics.

But I guess when you're an "artist" who feel a pile of poop with bent metal sticking out of it is art that the government should spend money on because everybody needs to see it and have their views "challenged," then sports WOULD be pretty stupid.

I think we should be able to take kegs of beer to the game and when we finish them off, throw them at the opposing teams fans.

Damn them Laramie cops.

Yeah, about that. The cops don't kick people out for being remotely rowdy. You get kicked out for being belligerent and a general pain-in-the-ass. Also, getting blacked out drunk isn't part of tradition, it's frankly dangerous. I'm not saying don't slam a few beers before the game, but maybe stop short of drinking that entire fifth of Jack before halftime.

In summary, cheer, be obnoxious, be rowdy, but do it toward the other team, not the fans around you. If people standing next to you think you're being an idiot, you probably are. Either stop or move. Also, if you're falling off of the stands and knocking people over because you're hammered, you should probably sit down or go home. Know your limits.

People don't come to the games, because this team rolls over. They don't play to win.. They play for moral victories. It's embarrassing. They never should have lost to Utah last week... But they rolled over. no support for pussies. you have browder dropping the game winning int... you have prosinski blowing way too many assignments, and he is way overrated... then you have a qb turned wr dropping passes which turn into interceptions. We won't be able to compete anyways until we have atleat 1 legit d1 wide receiver that runs faster than a 4.6. Still have a very solid defense thanks to Glenn, but it WILL gradually get weaker and weaker as the offense slowly gets better. Until we recruit kids with a winning attitude nothing will change. We have a few just not enough. I'm very afraid of this team turning into a missouri... DC recruits more talent, but still rolls over for tcu, byu, utah. I much prefer a lesser talented team that fights like a mofo all the way thru believing they can win.

What took you so long EPS? hahaha I expected this one earlier in the week.

"I'd much rather prefer a less talented team" Classic :)

Is "classic" the right word? And tell me now (again) this doesn't reek of a cockhill or cockhill wife type of post. And the whole premise that the D is going to get worse is rediculous...I think we see a solid D next year, and in fact a better D in two years, than we maybe have for past 20.

Your post almost makes me want to mention the dreaded "sell beer at the AA & War" topic...but I won't. ;)

wow - this has gone better than I could have hoped.

Do you think improving the amenities - food, bathrooms and just the aesthetic look of the stadium will help attendance? Does a nicer stadium make for a better game day experience - and thus more of a willingness to come back?

Well for EPS I guess "standard idiocy" would probably be a better description of his usual posts.

I think once the stadium upgrades are complete it will draw some new interest from fans. But not nearly as much as fielding a better on-field product.

It would also be nice if they turned the sponsorship into entertainment somehow. Right now the advertising is obnoxious at best, and it clearly makes the game day experience worse.

I hate to sayit but it does come down to winning the year we played Florida we started 3-1 and hosted TCU and had 27,000 people there and we won the we finished the season 4-8 the girls team aalmost got no body at there game then they made a WNIT run that was amazing and the championship game was sold out so yes it is primaryily about winning

I have to say that today was a real good example of why people don't come to the games. I have never seen a bigger, uglier egg. However, their report of the attendance at today's game wasn't close. They said 17,000 + - it was at least 5,000 more than that. Band Day could have thrown those numbers off some though.

for non diehards like us, I think winning and having fun is what would bring in fans. the texas game was fun because the crowd was loud, a little crude, and we were competitive until the second half.

I really wish there were 30,000 screaming UW fans at every game. I would stand out so much then. I had a lot more fun in the student section in the Tiller years, the game itself was just fun and loud - and I would let my kids be a part of it. We are not in the student section now but I would love for the games to be fun, loud, and competitive.
