Why All The Bitching About Laramie Attendance?

Just had a few thoughts...Laramie, is basically a town of 20,000 people (yes the census includes the student population). When the students aren't in town (Semester break, Summer, etc.), Laramie is the size of Sheridan, but poorer.

And posters on this board expect 1/4 of that population to be regular basketball season ticket holders? That's ridiculous. Also given the fact that probably another 1/4 of the population lives at poverty or similar level, it becomes even more evident how ridiculous it is.

In order for Wyoming basketball to have great attendance, Cheyenne is the community that really needs to step up. Oh, and when the students are back in Laramie, they need to step up too. Just some thoughts.

Bullshit! I get so tired of hearing its cheyennes fault. After every single home game there is a solid line of tail lights headed east out of Laramie. It is not RIDICULOUS to expect a college town to show up for its team.

Ya those 200 cars from a town of 70,000 really mean a lot.

PS - I never said it was "Cheyenne's Fault" - but if people want to point at a community that has the most runway to step up, sure the fuck it is Cheyenne.

And you are way off base if you think 25% of Laramie is even able to show up. That would be like saying if UW was located in Cheyenne, that UW would automatically have 17,500 at every home game. Jesus.

Bingo. We are a small college town, and not a very big school to boot. I guarantee without even looking that we are outdrawing 100 schools with both a larger local population and a larger student body.

I feel this is a two part issue no one can directly place blame on one or another thing.

1. Small town & Small state with basically no Athletics to cheer about in ages.
2. Older Community less enthusiasm towards today youth.

Those 40+ people that are still in the crowd are the fans that remember the successful in the 80's and they are still there. But 27 years of nothing gets you 27 years of nothing in return. Two generations of people have had nothing to get excited about except for a small hope here and there.

Unless you are a die hard fan you aren't going to support a losing team College town or not.

they can pick a game or two to come to, last time I remember there really isn't alot to do in Laramie on a Wednesday night in January and February. Mc Peachy I know that if you being in Laramie you'll be there all the time, but you have to admit a town of 25000, lets say to eliminate any argument even if 10% of that would be 2500 and that's fair then, but why can't 30% make up the difference. I'm sure they have connections to get tickets, freebies if the season ticket holders don't wanna come. Even if I didn't win my tickets all the time I would at least find a way to buy them for conference season even if it's on TV, hence this Wednesday, it's the lack of a local blackout that is the real factor here, it's made our fans more lazy than ever b4...i get it for those outside of a 150 mile radius on a Wednesday night, if the excuse is work the next morning the Laramie faithful will be up watching regardless!!!

TV isn't the issue.

It's that ENOUGH people don't care. If enough people cared, then it would be packed. Winning will help. 9pm Wednesday night games aren't going to help but just keep winning at this rate and it will start to fill in. Season after season, winning will start to build it.

I blame the community of Farson/Eden. It's places like those that never bring anybody in!

Farsons Ice Cream cones supersede anything in the thread so they are immune to blame.

+1

Face it, the whole State has fewer people than a lot of the metropolis that house other, larger, schools. We win the "percentage of the population attending" against probably everyone, but damn it, that's no excuse!

It just makes it all the more special when we fill the place again. You never realize how awesome it all was until its gone. Gonna have to make it happen for the next generation to get that feeling back. Hopefully some of older generation will come back. I'm out in Cali now and don't really ever want to live in Wyo again so I can't help. I did think about going up to Laramie for the CSU game but I'm worried about weather/stuff out of my control. In talks with a Wyoming powerhouse crew for Vegas though...we'll see how that goes.

I think economic factors are a big part of this discussion. There just ain't a whole lot of money/opportunity in Wyoming for a lot of people. A lot of the people making the cheddar probably give zero fucks about the Pokes and more about the next whiskey bottle

The longer we hang out in the top 25, the more "casual" fans start to make their way to the AA. I wish it wasn't that way, but it is what it is at most places. I was at UW during the Shroyer years, needless to say not many graduated hardcore poke basketball fans. Unfortunately you have to win, or at least lose with some respectability.

That's it!!! Boost attendance. Have the Farson ice cream store come and serve massive ice cream cones at a game. Everyone goes to Farson for their ice cream... Let's bring some Wyoming goodness to the fans.

Wish I lived closer to Laramie. I wouldn't miss a game.

Hey, I will be representing a solid TWO in Logan on Jan 27. :thumb: Other than my wife is due that same week. Come on Baby! Hold out for daddy!!!!!
