Where's Riley???

i agree and I'm not calling for his head i just want him to start producing the way I think a Senior leader needs too, anyone that goes to the games and see exactly what I'm talking about in his magic act in disapperance, that's all

100% agreed. If he was producing like a senior leader should, than by all means he could play 40 minutes a night if it was necessary, but so far in his career he has yet to perform well once conference rolls around. I don't really have an explanation for why he seems to disappear for stretches, but a theory I have is he seems to wear down every single year about this point in the season. Again my opinion only, but I've always kinda thought he would be much better utilized as a 6th man, come off the bench, provide instant offense and leadership, plus, most importantly, he wouldn't wear down so much over the course of a season because his minutes would be better managed. As others have stated, shyatt knows what he's doing and I trust whatever lineups he's running out there to give us the best chance, but I really think grabau would be a better player coming off the bench, and playing at the end of games. After all, its not who starts the games, but who finishes them that really tells the story.

I agree with this 100%

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions on here no doubt. I just don't think "silent splash" gets his due much around here ever, hence the "silent" part of my made up nickname lol. Is he a world beater? Hell no. Still one of our most solid players and easily in our first 7. I could see bringing him off the bench more, but I do think he should always start games. These other guys need to prove a hell of a lot more to me for me to argue them more time in games.

I also think he could just be going through a spell right now too. I mean these are young ass kids going through a lot of shit. Could have something on his mind. I'm just saying lets give him a few more games before we criticize this dude. He just might come back BIG in these next couple at home.

I agree I wouldn't say he needs to be benched etc, I'm more worried about previous years he was shooting 45%+ from three point range and now Hankerson is taking and making more threes than he is. That is worrisome and not because I don't think he deserves the minutes but more so there has to be something causing that.

Well don't be surprised if he hits a 3 for us in the first 2 or 3 mins at the DOME OF DOOM. As far as Hankerson goes that's great. He's a senior too and he can ball. If they can balance out each other's slumps we'll be fine. What happens when they both are hot at the same time???? :winky:

I think its time we get back to positive talks around here. I mean we're on cloud fucking 9 RIGHT NOW and we're still having negative vibes towards our team? Let's save those to spread back to CSU again LOL

Let's just beat Boise crack the Top 25 and be 4-0 in mwc play and the negative talk will keep going away.

The only thing I've noticed about Grabau this year, I've noticed since well before the season started and has continued throughout the season, and that's when he is being interviewed he acts like he doesn't want to be there. He always has his head down, he gives short answers or has a towel over his head, and he's monotone in his answers.
I can't remember the game, but Adams, Nance and Grabau were all being interviewed and Adams and Nance were talkative, interactive and even joking with one another, Grabau just sat with his head down. At one point when Adams was speaking Nance turned to Grabau and showed him something on their stat sheet and whispered to Grabau with a smile. Grabau had a quick smile and went back to looking down.
Am I the only one to notice this? If it is his attitude, that will eventually affect his game. Does anyone know if he is having some family or personal issues?

Maybe he's just a badass that hates the media? If he is having personal issues none of our business really and we won't be the ones to help him out. Could be lots of things man or he just had a bad game. The "Silent Splash" just might be the quiet type that carries a lot on his mind. Most likely thinking "Goddamn I'm the all time leader of 3's here and the top all time FT% shooter at Wyoming yet those fucking Wyonation posters keep talking shit".........

He is not thinking that at all. My impression of Riley is that he has no ego at all. He is just a quiet, reserved person. I also understand that there was a recent death in his family.

That last line is clearly a joke ahahah. I don't think a bunch of internet hacks and their online personas could ever rattle "Silent Splash" Grabau.

Did I predict the future? Just want to say I told ya so with this one. The key is the "Silent" in the "Splash". So much of what this guy has done for us gets overlooked always. He's a glue guy. I like glue guys, that's the way I played ball. He is also clearly not a talker 8-)

This thread title should be

WHERE"s the LOVE 4 RILEY????

Sure will be interesting to see if anyone retracts their previous remark of him being somewhat of a liability. As I mentioned, I don't think anyone on the team can "general" the court like Riley. Glad he is a poke!

I won't... He can go 10 for 10 from the free throw line coming off the bench

When comparing this year to previous years I still ask where is Riley, Now I never thought he should be benched or any shit like that but has absolutely not been the same shooter from three point range this year and no one can argue that.

However his PPG going up is based on being the nail in everyones coffin from the free throw line. With that being the case he is still valuable but we need someone giving us steady threes if not Riley we need someone else to pick up the 40%+ from three range during conference play.

Anyone that thinks anyone on this team besides Riley should be starting at PG doesn't know anything about basketball.

You can't have someone like Adams or Hankerson run point the whole game because they turn the ball over too much and sometimes take stupid shots and get out of control. Lieberman is too young to be starting.

Riley is the best PG we have end of conversation.

He did shoot the 3 better last year no doubt, but guess what? Even pros have better years then others when it comes to shooting the 3 ball. Look at Lebron James prime example and that's fucking Lebron James man! I think we have a ton of 3 point shooting options this year. Sure not all of them are lights out, but I like our shooters more this year then I can't even recall how long????? Hell I'd even rather have Herndon and Lieberman rocket them up there then a TON of our shooters from the past.

So once again lay off old Riles. Dude is a young kid that has busted his ass for us for 4 years. He's not going pro. This is it. He's giving us magic and doesn't deserve anything more then LOVE from Pokes nation. I'm going to miss the shit outta this kid when he leaves the team. I don't care if he has a off night or multiple. I know how I feel about what he's given us and how he's been a HUGE part of turning our program around.

Dug a little deeper as well. Look at Michael Jordan's bipolar 3 point shooting percentage.

Lebron

Awww one of my old FAVORITES John Stockton

Look at their 3 point% year by year. Good years, bad years....its part of sports in general. What don't we question? These are all BAD MOTHER FUCKERS on the court!

I also won't redact my thoughts on Riley better being utilized off the bench. Yesterday was the perfect example of what Grabau needs to do, which is take care of the ball, and hit free throws down the stretch. He played great down the stretch for sure, but I have to vehemently disagree that he is the best PG we have. To me, what a point guard should be is the guy who creates offense either for himself or more importantly for his teammates. I will agree that Adams is more turnover prone, but whenever we need a big play, or a play created for someone, it is ALWAYS Adams that creates said offensive opportunities. I can live with the mistakes he makes, because he creates so many opportunities and puts pressure on the defense. I appreciate what Riley has done for the program and his effort as much as anyone, but he simply does not have the skill set to be the creative force on the offensive end: a la the point guard. As I've said before, I love what Shyatt is building for poke basketball and have no problem with our lineups as they are because this team supports each other and plays together so well as it is.

Again these are all my opinions only, and I don't expect others to share them necessarily. Not ripping on Riley in any way, because I firmly believe we need him in the game at critical times especially down the stretch for free throws. I simply think we don't utilize his skill set the best that we could.
