What would it take for the MWC...

To return to scheduling Thursday, Saturday, Monday (ONLY) games. No more of this Tuesday / Wednesday bullshit? I will begin in saying, doing so will...

1. Reduce teams travel costs (with partners of course)
2. Increase attendance at home tilts for out of town visitors
3. Put us back on Monday night games - which replace MNF games in January - March (eyeballs)
4. Create better travel venues for fans for a 2 game road trip

And many others...

It would take the same thing it took for us to have them to begin with, We had those days because we had the MWC Network broadcasting those games and there was no one to fight with for time slots. We'll never see those slots w/o a network because there are better teams on that are given those nights.

I believe the reason we don't do this anymore is we don't have travel partners anymore. With 11 teams you can't. What is the team that doesn't get a travel partner. I enjoyed the way those seasons were set up but don't see it happening without some changes made to the conference.

I thought about that...but the MWC only schedules 18 conference games. So if Hair got his head out of his ass, he could easily figure out travel partners and schedules.

I also thought about TV...and clearly was wondering, "what TV"? Surely CBSSN doesn't dictate THAT much do they?

How do you mean? With 11 teams someone wouldn't have a partner. Or do you suggest changing travel partners every weekend? I imagine the coaching staffs prefer it this way. GEt one more day between games(wed-sat vs thurs-sat)fewer long road trips(lots of games are home wed, road on Saturday or vice versa, even though Wyo hasn't had that yet this year). I don't know what the coaches prefer but could see them liking it this way.

I mean that the MWC would need to actually think for once, and either move to a larger amount of conference games (20) or figure out how to rotate trips / teams. They would need to pair up everyone, except maybe CSewe - WYO - AFA, who would be the Thur - Sat - Mon trip for all the "other" travel partners.

Although that term is really used loosely...as they really aren't travel partners, they just schedule and flip either Thursday / Saturday, or Saturday / Monday.

We never had the Thur/Sat/Mon games on the Mountain. That was before we had the Mountain.

We had them all the time on the Mtn I still have recordings of some of those games back in the 90's.

ESPN has a set system for Basketball.

Big Monday
Super Tuesday
Wednesday Night Hoops
Thursday Night Showcase
Saturday Primetime

Big Monday was the partner for MWC Hoops, Mtn Network covered every night except Big Monday and every great once in a while we would see another night of the week because we were doing good that year.

I didn't think the .mtn came around until the mid - 2000's. I had to look it up to be certain, but it looks like I was correct in my thinking: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MountainWest_Sports_Network

Except the Mtn only started up about 10 years ago...

EDIT: Beat me to it, McPeachy...

I have to go pull up that video and see what I recorded it from, I know it wasn't ESPN I'll check after work can't find it right now but it could have been a web stream.

No worries...either way.

I remember that we used to be featured on ESPN's big Monday games, quite frequently.

SportsWest? They used to broadcast a bunch of games for local tv before the MTN.

The MWC set games for a Tuesday/Wednesday and Saturday rotations. The MTN broadcast these. We never had Monday or Thursday games with the Mountain. Thursday/Saturday rotations were before the advent of the MTN.

Easy answer. Go get Houston

So how does Houston make it fit?

Wyo-CSU
AFA-NM
Nevada-UNLV
USU-Boise St
Fresno-SJSU
SDSU-Houston?

Or
Houston-NM
CSU-AFA
Wyo-USU
SDSU-UNLV
Nevada-Boise St
SJSU-Fresno?

The first one makes most sense for the first 5 partners, but terrible sense for the 6th.
Where the second one is decent but not great for anyone but CSU-AFA and SJSU-Fresno
