downgrading seats is going to do a couple things, it won't make the place look as empty,it will be easier to fill up, and it is gonna make the arena look more attractive... Both bball coaches say practice is too hard because we have 4 hoops and it makes for 4 courts that are about 1/4 of a normal size if that. They need to do the renovation for practice purposes alone! The boxes where seats will be removed will help with tv broadcasts, presidents box etc. It is all about having great facilities, it will help with recruiting. 12,000 is still a very very big arena, but it will look "sexier"

Agreed with all of this. Most of our competition has separate practice facilities. This is pretty much the minimum we need to do to be competitive.

This is the one part of the renovation plan I don't get. I always assumed that the team practiced at Half acre gym. At least I remember stories of players breaking backboards there when I was in school. Wouldn't a seperate practice facility make more sense than pouring millions into changing the floor of the AA? Especially when the side effect is fewer seats that are further from the court. (At least that's what it looks like in the concept drawings.)

The team has practiced at the A-A for as long as I remember, but you certainly bring up a valid point in terms of whether or not we have evaluated the potential for a separate practice facility combined with more modest renovations to the A-A. I assume all of that was looked at and this was found to be the most cost-effective combo, but I'm not really sure.

You thought that the team practiced at half acre? How long has it been since you've been on campus?

Honestly it's been a while since I really cared to even think about BBall. As I recall the story it was Slater who broke the backboard.

I never thought they practiced in the AA, at least not regularly given the space limitations. I thought they went somewhere else. Doesn't the MPG, Field house and Half Acre all have more room?

Yeah field house has more room but it's pretty much just wrestling/volleyball/indoor track and half acre now has more room but that is a gym for the students. It's probably not even the same as it was as you remember it. Bottom floor of half acre is a giant weight room w/locker rooms and a swimming pool.
Up stairs is 3 basketball courts and right above that is a little track going around the gym.

I think it is awesome having one of the bigger arenas

I also like having one of the bigger arenas in the nation outside of Utah. That is way I do not like the idea of going to the relatively small-time 12,000. I have been in the little 8,000-10,000 arenas and they do feel like they are second-rate after being in a completely-filled AA.

15,000 was always a nice size when the team on the floor was really a show and not just another also-ran.

I remember a few times attending games when the AA was packed (and at least once when it was over 16,000) and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. I also recognize the need to make changes for a better practice facility. If we were to build a separate practice facility, it would cost more, they would still have to remodel the AA, and I'm not sure where they would put it. But then our governor wants to sock away hundreds of millions of dollars into the rainy-day fund account - even at a cost of cutting budgets all over the state.

I actually think I would bring some seats closer to the court. I know there was talk of moveable bleachers brought in to fill the extra space for practice courts. Would be cool to have some student sections right on the court.

I think wylrae had some very good points, I would add a couple new things every fan should be able to bring his, own cooler full of beer to any game! it works well in Nascar, we should do the same. Every fan should never have to leave his seat, to get something to eat. It does not matter if you set in the first row or at the top, a waitress will come by and take your order. Wyoming want's to be big time, we need big time food! get rid of hotdogs and bring in lobster, prime rib, sirloin steaks, to name a few.
