What should our schedule goals be?

How do you guys think our ideal out of conference schedule should be?

This year, TEXAS, WEBER ST., @Colorado, @FAU
Next year, SOUTHERN UTAH, BOISE ST., @Texas, @Toledo (is the Toledo game confirmed?)

I love that we are getting big programs into the War. I'm a little torn on the schedule strength for where we are as a program right now.

Looking at SDSU's schedule this year and next year,

This year, SOUTHERN UTAH, NEW MEXICO ST., @Idaho, @UCLA
Next year, NICHOLLS ST., UTAH ST., @New Mexico St., @Nevada

Certainly their schedule strength is a step down from ours. Our programs are in a similar position right now, rebuilding under a new regime. What do you guys think? On one hand I think perhaps we should schedule down a bit to try to build up wins for an up and coming program. I don't mean feasting on FCS cupcakes, I don't want any FCS teams ever on the schedule. Rather I mean mid level WAC-MAC type teams that we should beat.
But on the other hand its great to get big teams at home and compete against the best, (plus the huge financial boost from playing a big time team).
I'm not sure...

In the next few years we get to play oregon, nebraska, mizzou, and boise all at the war. So some big time teams are coming.

if I got to be ad for the day I think I would schedule a team like k-state. They would be an intersting match up. The fact that they are winning the big 12 north is funny. They aren't that good, but would put up a good game for this team. Plus you know the war would be packed.

Obviously there are 2 schools of thought. SDSU's schedule next year is a laugher...that has 4 & 0 written all over it, with the only tester being @ Nevada in Reno. Ours, on the other hand, is set up for 2 & 2 at best.

I don't see how it's 2 - 2 at best. Sure, beating Longhorns @ Texas would be a huge stretch, but I don't see why we can't beat Boise and Toledo. I'm definitely not going to expect it, but it doesn't feel like that much of a stretch either.

Texas is Texas, and in Austin, I don't see this as a good / favorable early matchup. Toledo can be tough as well, especially as we are the visitors, but I think they are much more beatable than Texas & Boise. When Boise rolls into Laramie next year, they will more than likely be a top 10 team, after all they return a ton. So my expectations are 2 & 2, with wins over Southern Utah & Toledo.

3-1 is possible and that is what im going to predict with wins over Southern Boise and Toledo

Our schedule goals every year should be to go 12-0. Shooting for 2-2 or 3-1 out of conference is shooting for mediocrity. At this point our coaching staff has made it abundantly clear that losing is not an option. They aren't concerned with moral victories. They expect nothing less than a victory every week.

I think the AD also recognizes that you won't get any kind of credit if you don't play good teams. Boise might think the Wyoming game will be a cake walk, but I sincerely hope it's anything but. Same goes for Mizzou, Huskers, and so on... If our team finally starts clicking, we might actually start beating some of these quality teams and make some noise. Scheduling all cupcakes really proves nothing about where the program is at, so why not go all out and aim for as high as we can get?
