Plus Boise State beat Oklahoma on National T.V. in a game everyone still talks about. When was the last time Wyoming was able to do that? 1960s? No one today remembers that. Our embarrassing loss to Okie State and Barry Sanders in 1988 was in a way the beginning of the end for Wyoming. Had we won, who knows how things coulda been for Wyoming in the past 20+ years until now. Gawd, I'm depressed!!!!! Can't brag about Wyoming down here in Oklahoma cos we can't beat a legit football team. And beating Tennessee doesn't count since we all know they were super horrible that year.
Well, I wasn't really getting into that...my main point is....there is quite the difference between being ranked 10 times 60+ years (none of them being within the last 10 years) and being ranked 11 times within this millennium. But that is beside the point, Wyoming has proven they can achieve a Top 25 ranking.....but the schools history also suggests that its really hard to maintain that level. There's the subtle difference between BSU's ranking and UW's....consistency. One does it every year for a long period of time, the other occasionally makes it happen.....that's what BeaverPoke was stating. Wyoming has the potential to achieve that one great season (much like Hawaii or Northern Illinois) but consistently doing that is a entirely different level.

And that's because we can't beat legit opponents on a national level. Maybe one season might do it like 2007 Hawaii but as you said UW isn't the type to do it yearly like Boise does. We need our own Petersen and a coaching staff that worth a damned and one that stays together for at least 5-10 years. Our current coaching staff isn't worth SHIT!!!!!

Part of that problem is that UW needs money and lots of it. The state has a major surplus of it. The problem is the state won't give the university any due to the fact the state needs to save for a rainy day (like a major blizzard or fire that destroys property). Getting the state to send money to UW would be like getting Congress to actually listen to the people of the United State instead of having bitch fights between the two main political parties there.

Should be interesting

Not really. As you point out, you are posting this on the Wyoming fan message board where the vast majority of the active members of this board are undoubtedly large fans of the program that take an active interest in the direction of the program.

Certainly would think that...but the dialogue in a few other threads makes me wonder. ;)
I was waiting on you to comment in a "few other threads" You usually hit the nail on the head when it comes to ideology of our fans and athletic dept.

Wyoming has handled the recession really well compared to all of the other states in this country. Wyo state government as a whole spends their money quite wisely (in comparison). I won't harp on them for not putting it all into UW athletics if it means my great state doesn't end up like California and Michigan.

Meanwhile UW hasn't won a conference title since we shared it with Fresno State and the basterds (BYU) in 1993!!!!! 20 fucking years ago!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Wyo, but I don't lose sleep when they lose. I want them to be the best; I'd love to see them competing for the championship in all sports every year.

I'm pretty grouchy after losing winnable games. Ask my wife. Last season was rough in the Subhouse, esp the 2nd half of hoops.

Wyoming Cowboys Football is the only professional sports team we have, and I am a lot like a Denver Broncos fan (which I am not), flakey as hell. Big fan when they are winning the conference and making post season appearances, not so much the rest of the time.

I mean, if we are going to go out and recruit in Texas, California, Colorado, and Florida while most of the instate prospects go elsewhere, then I expect to see Wyoming winning their conference regularly, and compete for a National Championship. If not, then what is the point of having a professional sports franchise in the first place?

Wyoming is in a non-BCS school, so we are not professional.
And most of the instate prospects go elsewhere? Who? Taven Bryan. 1.
Austin Fort just committed to us.

It will be interesting to see how Boise (and everyone for that matter) stands up in this new conference. From the time they joined the WAC until the end, it basically was a watered down conference. Not to take anything away from them (they could have been at the bottom of the WAC, but that never happened).

The level of the play of the MWC has always been significantly higher, and it will be interested to see how things in MWC 2.0 settle out in the next few years.

It's obvious they are trying to change that. They rode the roller coaster high, they road it into the ground, now it looks like they are trying to rebuild the rollercoaster before the hurricane hits.
