Not really. As you point out, you are posting this on the Wyoming fan message board where the vast majority of the active members of this board are undoubtedly large fans of the program that take an active interest in the direction of the program.

I do want Wyoming to be the best they can be and that means I expect them to compete for conference titles and be in top 25 discussion eventually. I even think they can have the same success as Boise State but anything more seems to be too high of an expectation.
I think the same thing about BYU fans Boise State fans etc. I think just about everyone is under a glass ceiling where their teams best won't be a national title in this era either. I was just reading that Texas A&M gets over a million dollars just on their suites.

If you are comparing UW to Texas A&M, then you are comparing apples & oranges. But if you are comparing UW to BSU, then there is no valid reason UW shouldn't have the success that BSU has.

pokefanchaz7 said:Agreed. I think we could have the same success as a Boise State program.I just don't think they could be "the best" which I interpret as national title contenders. I don't think any of the schools in non BCS conferences really do. Many of them fool themselves into thinking they can but they really can't.
About the same for me. Losing doesn't interrupt my sleep, but it feels like a donkey just kicked me in the stomach after eating a big meal.JimmyDimes said:I don't lose sleep when we lose are aren't playing well......even the loss to Cal Poly last year. I do get a little sick to my stomach however. And damn, if losing doesn't put me in a foul mood. Bleed brown and gold....always have and always will.
J-Rod said:I think most Wyoming fans are hardcore fans......hard to have bandwagon fans with UW's resume over the last 13 years or so. But I would say most here are true fans.....you wouldn't keep coming back after losses if that weren't true.
I have no idea what UW's upside is. We are coming into dangerous times in college football. Wyoming will not be a part of the Big 5 conferences and will be relegated to the "new" FCS level of college football, along with the rest of the MWC. When that happens, Wyoming could become a perennial playoff team, assuming the "new FCS" adopts a playoff model instead of accepting shitty bowl games (MWC would probably be a 5-bid league).....but in terms of becoming a Top 25 program....impossible. When the division comes, and it will.....Wyoming will be left on the outside looking in. The programs upside will be quarantined into this new division of the college game. Which could mean lots of winning.....just not at the highest level. Which should be fine with most folks....dreaming is fine, but Wyoming was never going to be a perennial Top 15 or 10 in the current model of college football.
??? Not sure I understand this.....JimmyDimes said:You know Beav, Wyoming has only one less top 25 season that Boise and more than every other current MWC. In the late 80's we went undefeated two years in a row in conference play and were ranked as high as #10 (#4 in basketball in the same year). We've proven we can do it....before Boise did it. We're in a tough place because of our remoteness, but it can be done. Just need to get things going in the right direction and then build on that.

And the BSC shipped has sailed for every program not currently in the big 5. We don't need a BCS conference, we just need to get back to Cowboy Tough football. When Wyoming is successful it is even more gratifying because of what we have to work with.

Past 1970 (relevant history), Wyoming has been ranked 5 times (88, 90, 93, 96, 98)...Boise State has been ranked every single year since 2002 (11 times).....I see what you are saying if you include all history, but IMO anything before 1970 is just simply outdated.....the game is drastically different now. And Wyoming usually achieved Top 25 status within that 20-25 range.....Boise has often been in the Top 15, sometimes Top 5. In bad years BSU finished in the 20s somewhere. Just saying....the numbers reveal more than simply looking at the overall history. There is a difference between barely being ranked, and having your name up with the big boys in college football.
Just pointing out....there is a huge difference between attaining 10 rankings over the course of 60+ years, and 11 rankings this millennium.
Well, I wasn't really getting into that...my main point is....there is quite the difference between being ranked 10 times 60+ years (none of them being within the last 10 years) and being ranked 11 times within this millennium. But that is beside the point, Wyoming has proven they can achieve a Top 25 ranking.....but the schools history also suggests that its really hard to maintain that level. There's the subtle difference between BSU's ranking and UW's....consistency. One does it every year for a long period of time, the other occasionally makes it happen.....that's what BeaverPoke was stating. Wyoming has the potential to achieve that one great season (much like Hawaii or Northern Illinois) but consistently doing that is a entirely different level.Wyokie said:Plus Boise State beat Oklahoma on National T.V. in a game everyone still talks about. When was the last time Wyoming was able to do that? 1960s? No one today remembers that. Our embarrassing loss to Okie State and Barry Sanders in 1988 was in a way the beginning of the end for Wyoming. Had we won, who knows how things coulda been for Wyoming in the past 20+ years until now. Gawd, I'm depressed!!!!! Can't brag about Wyoming down here in Oklahoma cos we can't beat a legit football team. And beating Tennessee doesn't count since we all know they were super horrible that year.
