I wouldn't mind grabbing another top assistant from a BCS school IF:
The coach has to be able to admit when he is wrong. He has to be able to make adjustments.
If we get another top OC (like Dave) I want him to be a coach who can hire a very respected D-Coordinator that can recruit to Wyoming.
We don't need a big time d-coordinator if he has only recruited to LA, California, Austin, Texas, Miami, Florida etc. We need a coach who can recruit to the small places.
It's like Oregon State's baseball recruiting. Pat Casey does not go to California, Arizona, and Texas and recruit a bunch of 5 star baseball players who have only played in the hot sun year-round. He recruits kids from the PNW who can play in rainy Corvallis, Oregon. (OS baseball is one of the best baseball programs in the country BTW)
Why recruit someone who you can sell the program to, but when it comes down to it, won't enjoy living/playing here?
If we get someone who has had success where he was at, but the success came from being a place totally different than Laramie, Wyoming, his success won't follow.
Bohl from NDSU can certainly recruit kids to the small town (although Fargo is bigger than Laramie).
But still, when you think Fargo, ND you don't think beaches, night clubs, fine babes. You think..."What's in Fargo?"
That's where we are. "What's in Laramie?"
If we hire someone like Bohl, who is very respected, he will likely be able to get a good OC to come.
Whatever type of coach we get, offensive minded, or defensive minded, we need him to be respected and LIKED by other coaches (ones that would WANT to work for him).
We need that coach to come from a place that isn't all that different from Laramie, Wyoming.
What we would all like is a coach with the offense of Christensen, personality of Glenn, defense of Glenn, and results of Devaney.
But, he needs to fit the mold. Winning is possible in Laramie. But we need the right guy. We aren't a program that can narrow the list down to a handful of people then it won't really matter. Teams like Florida and USC have people lining up to be their next coaches. They can randomly pick any of them and still win.
We have to get a guy that embraces Laramie, UW, and the state. We need a guy that can recruit to the small town. We need someone who is liked by other coaches so they will want to work with him.
This guy sounds a lot like Larry Shyatt.
We need a Larry Shyatt of football.
Who is he?
