What if...

So I was thinking last night, and I am not optimisitic about it happening (though I really would like to see us get some wins), but what if the ball started bouncing our way. Some how with 2 weeks the coaches put together a game plan, we actually hold onto the ball, D-Mo takes one to the house and we sneak out of TCU with a win (I know they are ranked but CSU probably out played them last week). We get past TCU I don't think there is much confidence with any of the teams left on the schedule, even Tennessee will probably have packed it in by the time we get there. So my question is what happens if we eak out 4 more wins somehow or even 5? It seems to be Glenn's MO to find a way to play half a season. My question is what if that happens now, I have been so pissed and embarrassed by the Pokes so far this year winning won't be enough at this point, the only way to prove to me that this coaching staff is the real deal is to win and do it with offense. Like I said I know this is way out there, but looking at the remaining schedule if we somehow glued the football to our hand and didn't turn it over I am not sure that we shouldn't be in the remaining games. So my question to everybody is; where would you stand on the Glenn issue at that point?

If somehow things get turned around and we start scoring points and winning games, convincingly, I would be happy as hell to give Joe a break this year. I still think that he would have to start being more proactive in his gameday coaching, possibly getting more involved with what his coaches are doing with the players. That is the one thing that I never understood about his coaching philosophy, it's fine to let your assistants do what they do, but you still have to have the final say on what direction you are taking the team. Case in point, the QB debate during fall camp. I believe that the divisiveness of the coaches on who was going to be the starter carried over into the season. How does that screw with a players head knowing that you aren't the unanimous pick to lead the team? I think we all saw the result of that...

Back to the point at hand...I think if Joe can get to 6-6 or even 7-5, he has done a hell of a job getting this team back together and deserves another shot next season with all the returning players he has.

But, the lack of recruiting announcement still sticks in my mind as a sign of giving up......

Snow - I think we would all like to see it happen, but do you really believe it could? Yes, I know about the turnaround stories in sports but after watching this team the last 7 weeks....no way. At TCU, where we don't play well, on the road, ain't gonna happen. Maybe it is negative but nothing I have watched yet even shows that we have a chance. Sorry so negative but we are not good!

No actually I don't think its likely, my point was what if we catch some lucky breaks and end up "falling into a few wins" against some mediocre at best opponents? Does that make up for the fact that we have been terrible up to this point? IMO - It doesn't, unless we can prove that we can run an offense that legitimatly outscores opponents for the rest of the season it wouldn't change my opinion about needing a change at this point. My fear is we get 2-3 more wins by some flukes and Burman forgets about wanting winning seasons and decides thats enough of an improvement from the beginning of the season to give Glenn one more year. That's the point I was trying to make and get opinions on.

Hey fellas, another convert from GWG here. I was just thinking the same thing... what if we somehow manage to pull out the rest of the season?

While I don't think it likely, here's what I'd recommend to Burman if it happened. Make Joe the director of football operations or assistant AD or something. We like him, we like his fundraising ability and personality, but he's just not getting it done on the field. So in that situation, we get to keep him around, but he doesn't get a hand in the daily coaching, recruiting, etc. unless the new guy specifically asks for it.

I'm not sure that's a great idea, because it might be hard for a new coach if Glenn is still around, unless it's Breske. but it might be the best of both worlds to keep both factions of fans happy.

Just my $.02

No doubt Glenn can keep his job by winning out. That finishes 7-5 and means a victory over ranked TCU at TCU and a victory at Tennessee (anybody who's been to Knoxville knows how HUGE that would be).

Won't happen, but a healthy imagination is a good thing.

He might even keep his job going 6-6 because that still means a victory at TCU or at Tennessee. Otherwise, Its pretty much over for the Glenmeister.

7 & 5 equals bowl game as well...hard to axe someone (at UW) that leads us to a bowl. Although that is kind of pathetic since something like 68 teams will make bowl games this year.

Winning MWC championships should be our number one priority. Bowl games come later in the year. Joe Glenn will not win MWC championships. BTW...winning out? San Diego State may be the closest conference game we play this year.

We'll be lucky to score, let alone win a game.

I think that we are gonna score, not much, but we are gonna score. How can we not score when we are playing the 3rd and 4th string defenses from SDSU, UNLV, and CSU the entire 4th quarter of the each one of those games!?!

I think that if Glenn were to pull off that miracle, then he would keep his job. Honestly, I think if he won just 3 more games, ending with 5 total, that would keep his job. But it wont happen. After the North Dakota game I said that I didnt think the Pokes would win another game. And I still believe that. Even without all the turnovers, I dont think the Pokes win any of the past games. This team just isnt capable of scoring more than about 14 pts a game (without the turnovers). Glenn and crew arent trying to change anything over the last month (other than rotating QBs). Its still the same scheme, the same plays. It wont work, because it can't work. But to answer your question, yes i think he would keep his job if he won out.
