I had the same thoughts. I'm guessing he had a super high deductible plan with a co-pay. Basically the cheapest option you can get to stay legal.
As I put on twitter, this campaign shows all that is right with the world. He needed help, he had to take the hit to his ego and ask for it, and people have come through for him in a big way. I couldn't donate much, but I donated what I could, and it really makes me happy to see so many other people doing it as well. There is a lot to be proud and hopeful for when we can all come together for a cause!
