What could have been...

Just as a way to get some conversation started during the dog days of summer, I wonder if anyone else has been thinking like myself recently. What could have been had Shyatt not left in 1998?

I don't want this to come down as a "I hate Shyatt for leaving" post. I wasn't happy about it, and was skeptical of bringing him back. I'm over it now, and I think we can all agree that we (for the most part) like what we see at this point. And yes, I realize it's too early to determine a whole lot. But the players coming in seem to be an improvement, the current roster's attitude seems to have improved somewhat, and there seems to be a buzz about Cowboy basketball around the state that's been missing for far too long. I'm truly just curious to hear from fans how they think things could have gone.

Because of the players that were here (Davis, Ugo, Uche, McFall etc.), I think things probably wouldn't have changed much up to the NCAA run in 2002. It may have even happened sooner. It's the years following that I believe may have been drastically different. Could Shyatt have repeated the NCAA run? (I think so) Would we have become perennial MWC contenders? (I believe we would) What kind of players would we have been seeing? (Fewer Jucos and less that didn't pan out IMO).

Thoughts from the Pokenation prognosticators? :)

Well said WellPoke. I have a feeling a lot of Wyoming fans felt the same way about Shyatt leaving and returning. I am glad he is back though. I'm impressed with the recruits, but only time will tell for sure. It sure seems to me that a good team attitude has been missing for quite a while. I am one that is excited for this season and not just for the newcomers but for the entire team. When do the season tickets go on sale?

Truth be told, I was only 9 years old when Shyatt had his first run here, so his going to Clemson after only 1 year doesn't really affect me as much as some of you older guys.
