Here we go. Where to begin.
Jimmy Johnson use to tell us as coaches at Miami, if the opposition is wide open, I need new coaches. if the opposition out jumps us I need new players. We saw both during yesterday's game . The positive is the punter who completed a pass on a fake punt. The negative for him is he kicked two kickoffs out of play.
There was absolutely no enthusiasm, energy or intensity to win the day. The two penalties at the end of the game by 98 Williams and 11 Bogar are inexcusable. Please, coaches, play your smart players who understand not to hurt the team
The lack of discipline and preparedness to win are shocking. Its obvious that there is no accountability on this team for lack of effort and lack of production. The position coaches are locked in to the rotation. I also noticed the lack of speed. Play your fastest players, not your biggest. We won multiple national championships at Miami with that mentality. Our LB's were converted safeties and our D lineman were often converted LB's. Wyoming has no sack artists or disruptors in this current rotation.
The game plan on defense was especially telling. This CMU team was not a passing team. The game plan should have been one more hat in the box than them. Put eight if necessary. Wyoming barely got out of their base four man front. Do not worry about their passing efficiency. The seasons passing numbers do not lie. An obvious coaching deficiency.
Coupled with the lack of adjustments, its an obvious coaching shortfall.
Also quite evident was that the players rotation was not adjusted. Are there no portal players not in the the rotation that can change the energy and momentum?
Regarding the offense, it became evident quite early that we are sorely missing team speed. Our qb at one point on an interception was caught by a defensive lineman. He often throws while on his toes and locks in to the intended receiver. His accuracy is lacking.
Where are our crossing patterns? Regarding the wide outs, what can be said?
Our TE dropped two key passes. Again inexcusable. Please hold them accountable. Give Pace more passing reps. That will have a tendency to make the starters focus.
As a former coach, I will not call for the dismissal of the coaches, but the head coach, coordinators and position coaches need to re think how they are coaching and focus on getting players in the game who actually care and are not taking their status on the team for granted. At this point, discipline, energy, intensity and team speed are required while making the appropriate adjustments. This will will help immensely.
At this point I feel as if I'm piling on. That is not my intention. I want to contribute based on my coaching experience while winning conference championships in the Big 10 and also working for Jimmy Johnson.
