All right, It is Thursday here is my blog on players to watch. Hopefully the reading material and links give you something to do to pass the time until Saturday night!

Any particular players you guy(s) will have your eyes on Saturday?

Mainly the offensive line, I'm curious as to how well it will hold up. We gave up 6 sacks to Montana and that is bad now those can't all be blamed on the OL Kirk lacked movement and pocket awareness.

Outside of that going to watch 55/50 ready to see these ends start making a difference.

I agree, I'm curious how the OL does in this one. I think run blocking again won't be a problem, but the question is the pass blocking. If they can handle AFAs 3 down lineman and the LBs, I think Kirk will show far more improvement.
Rufran had a big game against AFA last year aswell, I'm curious if he breaks a few long gainers in this one.
The one thing I noticed was none of the WRs could make any yardage after their catches against Montana, so I'm curious to see if Rufran and Claiborne can utilize their speed in this one and get down field after a catch.
I think Wick and May can do what they did last week again. I watched a few times where Nicholls OL opened up some significant holes against a AFA, and even with the questions in our own OL, I believe our OL is far more superior to Nicholls.
I want to see how AFAs OL can fare against Uso and the rest of our DL. I really think we have the pieces in place to break down AFAs OL. AFA is gonna have their hands full with Yarbrough, Mertens, Olive, and Puletasi. Each one of those guys pretty much need to be doubled down on to be stopped! And if AFA struggles with those front men, then Stanton and Nzeocha, Harris and potentially Wacha will have a field day getting to the corners to stop the option.
White showed that he can break off coverage and get to the ball on a run last week aswell.
The big thing on D is containment, but I'm hoping to see some turnovers also in this one.
The X factor- the crowd. I'm really hoping for a rowdy 22-25k there for Saturday night.

There's no question that the OLine is the big question mark, I don't know if we can fairly judge Colby until he gets a some time to throw the ball

Right now the only thing we can judge him on is his lack of pocket awareness. He has to be able to recognize when the protection is breaking down based on time in the pocket and not just his vision.

Right now I feel like he would stand in the pocket and take a sack w/o moving not because he didn't want to but because he honestly doesn't know when he needs to.

He is the X factor and needs to prove me wrong on that.

A couple of things:
1. The pass protection was abysmal. Colby barely had time to look down field, let alone get a sense of the pressure (same happened to Brett last year, remember? And Brett could scramble with the best of them).
2. Colby is not a scrambler. Never has been. He's a pocket passer. He'll (attempt to) step up in the pocket, but going back to number 1, he doesn't get much chance.

"The X factor- the crowd. I'm really hoping for a rowdy 22-25k there for Saturday night" I don't think there will be 20,000 people at this home game. The kickoff time is way too late for most folks to travel. I hope I'm wrong but I have had two tickets for sale on stubhub for half price and have had no bites.

I think there will be a rowdy group in the student section but not expecting a big turnout otherwise. I'm thinking the X factor will be if kirkigard can do well in the passing game. If he shows that we are a threat to throw the ball I think we win big.

I can't speak for how many others that will be there, but this is one old "no hair" fogey (with my better half) who will be there. When you hear a loud voice from the west side stands, it will be me.

I don't think we'll have nearly as many as last weekend, but an early September night game should be a good showing. Should be an absolutely beautiful night for some old school football.

I've definitely got my eyes on the o-line this weekend. I don't think AFA has a D-End like Montana did, so hopefully they can give Kirkegaard 2-3 more seconds of time to get the ball out.

Hmm... Lots of concern about the O-line. But that is not the main concern. What is? The defensive secondary - Burns excluded - but even last week he played way too far off his primary cover.

Missed you last week. :(
