Weber State @ Wyoming - Game Thread

The Gipson bros got owned! I don't know what to think about this game. I thought we would be better at corner, but it looks like its the same ole sh!t but a different day.

Wyoming wins by 7, thought it would be more considering Higgins through 5 INTS. But hey, a win is a win.

Thanks to DCPoke/The Virginian for the play by play (of the first half anyways) of the game on Twitter. I followed it religiously. Shamiel Gary... awesome. Cameron Higgins.. LOL. Sounds like we had some trouble w/ scoring, even though we were driving the ball.

ACS is something special. This is without a doubt a transition year, but he has star potential.

I think you guys are lucky. If the refs had not called at least 2 touchdowns back on bad calls we would have won even so I wish you luck the rest of the season.

Dude, get off it. You guys were down by a ton in the 4th quarter, Higgins was INTed 5 times. That wasn't luck, that was Weber getting kicked in the teeth for 3 quarters.

Those guys aren't very good corners. I've been saying it for years...they play 15-20 yards of their men and leave the flat open for 8 yard catches all day long...nothing's changed there.

been saying it for years? Is that 1 years? This is only the first game of the second year these two have played unless i'm mistaken. haha

These Cowboys are exciting. We have two very good qb's who grew a lot today, we have a strong 'D', we have a strong coaching staff, and on and on. I feel good. Next week we face a POWER HOUSE but the Pokes will grow and be competitive this year and then we'll get a new dose of talent geared for the spread! All's good in Cowboyland!

UW This Season: Marcell Gipson returns for his junior season after starting all 12 games for the Cowboys a year ago. Gipson teamed with his younger brother, Tashaun, at the cornerback spots for the Pokes in 2008.

2008: The older Gipson tied for the team lead in pass breakups as a sophomore with 10. His athletic ability was also utilized by the Cowboy defense as a blitzer, with him recording 1.0 sack and 2.5 tackles for losses. He ended the season with 45 total tackles, and started every game on the season for UW. In terms of top individual game performances, Gipson had a season high six tackles twice -- versus Bowling Green and at New Mexico. He was credited with five tackles versus Ohio, and had four tackles, 1.0 sack and one pass breakup against North Dakota State. Against Tennessee in Knoxville, Gipson was credited with an amazing five pass breakups in one game in a 13-7 Wyoming victory over the Volunteers. A physical tackler and talented cover corner, Gipson was one of the most impressive players in spring practice in `08. Entering spring, cornerback was one of the few concerns on the defensive side of the ball for Wyoming after the graduation of two-year starters Julius Stinson, a First Team All-MWC selection in `07, and Michael Medina. But Gipson stepped up to earn a starting spot as only a sophomore.

2007: Gipson rejoined the Wyoming Football team in the fall of `07 and paid his own way as he earned his eligibility back. He had to leave school in the spring of 2007 to attend to family matters.

2006: Arriving at UW in the spring of `06 as a grayshirt, Gipson showed signs of being a very promising talent. He also quickly established himself as a physical player, recording some of the biggest hits of 2006 spring drills. He had a strong fall camp, making the transition to learning a new position -- cornerback. He played quarterback and running back in high school. Gipson appeared in five games as a true freshman, and was credited with three total tackles.

2005: He originally signed with Wyoming in February of 2005 as a grayshirt and enrolled at UW in the spring of `06.

We're glad you had a good trip, weberwildcat. Thanks for the kind words and sentiments. Laramie is a great place to experience college football and the fans are welcoming to visitors. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. The Wildcats are tough. Good luck next week in Fort Collins and during the rest of the season.
