WE WON THE GAME

Look it, I understand and generally side with those who say it takes time to build something of value - this is true of most anything...however I have seen no evidence whatsoever that DC has been able to develop a defense worthy of a championship season -- or a season in which a championship is contended for.

That, and lets be honest guys (and gals), there are high school teams that tackle with more consistency than the UW defense does.
I could care less what the defense looks like if we are winning games.

Like NU and TX State, right?

I like our O, don't get me wrong. But our D is an obvious issue. I feel we have the personnel to not be one of the worst defenses in the BCS. Tormey was a poor hire, and has shown that he will not/can not improve.

Yeah he said if we are winning games who cares what the D looks like....

I'm sick of being mediocre to sub mediocre.

+1 It's fucking embarrassing to say I root for Wyoming to my friends here in Oklahoma

If I can't brag about WYOMING to my Oklahoma friends, I get really PISSED OFF! :tickedoff:

^^^^^^^
This so much. Even in our 3-9 and 4-8 seasons these last few years, I wore my Brown and Gold all year long, into Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada, Kansas, and Utah.

Yes, our D is not great. Shit, they're downright terrible at times. But with that same D we still have matched our win total from last year, in half a season. Like I said earlier and a few others have, a win's a win, 4-2 & 2-0 is nothing to bitch too much about

Unless you're Dino or Wyokie.

I think wyovanian is essentially right. We are not a great team. We have not improved drastically as we all have hoped. We are essentially the same team as we've had the last 4 years. Better in some areas, worse in others. Wins and losses essentially come down to TO and luck. We can essentially beat or lose to almost any team in our class.

I should rephrase, should be nothing to bitch too much about is more like it

Texas St was a joke and we have no business playing a team like that anyway....but it sure brought us all back to earth!! I was extremely disappointed for a week. Went to today's game knowing we were going to be in trouble if we couldn't stop the run and sure enuff we couldn't stop a cold. Its nice to see this o can turn it on and off when needed, but against a good team we don't have any luxury doing that AT ALL

Couldnt stop a cold? We held the #1 rushing team in the nation 100 below their average, and Carrier barely broke 100. Sure, ther was lapses but overall we did better against that running attack than I for one could have realistically hoped for

Jeeze, sounds like a bunch of Boise fans having a meltdown on bronco country here. Winning is good. Room for improvement for sure. We get complacent when it seems like games are well in hand. Attitude is an easy fix.

This thread is comedy. Outgained them both in the air and on the ground....even though the offense went stale after the quick 21 point lead. Once New Mexico made it close via a fumbled punt inside the 10 and a nice run by Carrier.....bad tackling included but still held him in check, the Poke took it up a notch and went back up by 14. New Mexico made a nice td with less than a minute left to make it closer than it actually was.

Go Pokes!!

I guess most of you missed it, but just in case WE WON THE GAME. Some people on this board need to actually face reality and see that we beat a decent team in a conference game, and are only 2 wins away from a bowl game. Some people on this board are pathetic and need to grow up.
And gave up yardage to a pathetic group,

Your hopes are low...
You are an absolutely pathetic fan. Are you even a Wyoming fan? We won the game get over yourself and grow the fuck up. Did we play the best game, no but we won so who cares. A win is a win, and conference wins are very hard to come by, hell look at Stanford getting beat by Utah. You are one reason why this fan base looks so pathetic, we are 4-2 two wins away from a bowl game with a team that won four games all of last year, and we are undefeated in conference play. People like you are pathetic, be happy that we won the game, be realistic and see that we aren't Oregon, we are Wyoming, and I will take being 4-2 and 2-0 in conference any day. It is like Wyo2Dal said, you would probably be pissed about winning a lottery if it wasn't with your favorite number.
This "pathetic" fan grew up in the shadow of War Memorial, remembers great programs, and has been to more great college football games than you will ever remember. I won't even go into the booster/ donor qualifications... which, are, by the way, pretty unconditional...

We have an Offensive Coordinator as a head coach. That's the long and short of it. The guy, at this point, gets $1,000,000 a year to beat CSU. It's pretty hard for me to jump on the "good 'nuff" band wagon and say "rah, rah, go Wyo" when mediocrity is the bar.

I expect a BCS-level program. If that's unreasonable, what's the point?

It's also about match ups. Our shitty run D versus they're awesome run O. Our D held them wayyy under their average despite some big plays. Held carrier to 4 yds per carry. I have plenty of concerns but we beat a decent team coming off a confidence building win and they were a very bad matchup for us.

Totally agree, we beat a team whose strength is running the ball and our weakness is stopping the run. I think we did a decent job considering. We do have a bad tendency of grabbing the ball carrier instead of hitting and rapping up. We have to work on the lulls in or offensive game though. I didnt like the play calling when we had the ball on the one yard line after Normans catch. Why not just feed Wick the ball? A sack and two incomplete passes led to a field goal instead of an easy touch down. I think CDC tries to hard to get brett his passing numbers instead of doing whats best for the team. That could've come back to haunt us. Luckily it didnt.
Great football teams don't say that.

Win we did.

A win in what I considered to be a lackluster effort that would have cost us against a better team.

The fact that any team can go bowling with only 6 wins is a disgrace...then again mediocrity is now championed in America.

Lastly, 6 wins and bowl game might satisfy some, but for myself it does not.

I want more than 6 wins - I want 8-9 wins and I want to be in contention for a MWC Championship EVERY year.

Am I desiring something too unrealistic?

Oh yeah, I want a defense that can control the line of scrimmage more often than not and wrap up and tackle a ball carrier more than once in every ten tries.
And how do you build a program that contends for conference championships every year? It doesn't happen over night, DC is taking us in the right direction, but it takes time to build a program, and not just a winning team. We will be right there for the conference championship this year, every team in the mountain division isn't much better than NM outside of Boise. It takes time to build a program, so just relax and let him build it like he is doing.
Ad nauseum...

How long are we supposed to "wait" (a.k.a.- hold low expecatations...)

Don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty damn tired of throwing a million a year at a coach...
And I am damn tired of this pathetic excuse of a fan base. We have been a shitty program for years, we can't just turn that around over night. This program is going in the right direction, DC is the right coach, and we need to pay him that kind of money to keep him here. I have never seen a fan base that has had minimal success, almost through the entirety of it be so pissed off at winning a game and being 4-2 and 2-0 in conference play.
What can you point to that says DC has made progress?

Man shut the fuck up.

We won the game.

Have a problem with throwing millions at a coach? That's the way college football is now-a-days. You have to pay a coach top dollar to get W's. Have a problem with it? Take it up with your local congressman and try and make a change.
We won the game and you are pissed about it. Fucking amazing.

YankPoke is right in ripping your ass for being a shitty fan, you are.

What the fuck do you want? An undefeated season? Even if Wyoming won the National Title game, you would be pissed of because we had a WR drop a pass at some point in the game.
We won the game despite our coaching.

As far as "shitty fan", my IRS deductions the past twenty-plus years say otherwise. I guess I just unreasonably expect a Boise State-level program from a team that's played D-1 football for decades...

We are a mediocre team with a great quarterback. End of discussion. There is no reason to fight about it. We are what we are. I actually like CDC and think this years offense is potent enough we should score enough to win every game remaining. I certainly wish we had a better defensive coaching staff because we are awful. But it's us. Pissing and moaning and bitching doesn't change the fact that the players give all they have, it's not nearly as much as players at big schools but they try. And we're much better than last year. Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time to build great teams. Were on the right track. Right now were mired in mediocrity but there are certainly glimpses of a great team to come. Last season we would have lost a game like today. We never would have recovered from giving up a 21 point lead and the momentum. They're progressing
