We should add Creighton to the MWC right now.

Hawaii is football only. Utep is coming home. You can bet on that. If we merge it gives us nine football and nine basketball schools going forward. Since having a matching number as the teams in the east is essential, why not add Creighton as soon as possible? They would immediately make up for the loss of SDSU.

Our basketball league would be stronger next year with the addition of Nevada, Creighton, Utep, and Fresno and the subtraction of TCU, Boise, and SDSU.

Good thought.....the realignment frenzy is set to begin again. Question for Creighton is, do they want to be in the basketball-tough MWC, or remain a big fish in a small pond in the MVC?

Funny irony here....Back in really early 90s when the WAC first arted having women's athletics for the conference, Creighton was in the the as a basketball only member for 2 years and did pretty well.

Just think of me as the WAC/MWC Historian. Plus it helps to have several old WAC media guides for diffeent sports after the WAC-16 thing started.

We're going to merge before we do anything.

Still, Creighton would be a great way to make up for the loss of SDSU. They might insist on a travel partner. If that's the case we'll take 21-4 Witchita State as a basketball/olympic sports team. If we needed a football only to balance out their addition welcome to UTSA or San Jose.

As soon as this merger goes down, we'll finally get to see their plan for additions. It better include Creighton or I'm going to be blown away by our lack of foresight.

My question........who is we, we're, and we'll now that talks are rising that Thompson is out? WHO is carrying out the courtship of Creighton?

Probably Britton from CUSA.

I just posted the idea on the Creighton board. It's a brand new thread so there aren't any responses yet.

I wish Creighton was still on our schedule. I do not know about adding a little Catholic school to the MWC. We are mostly state research schools with football programs.

Hiring Coach Shyatt and staff is what should make up for the departure of SDSU.

If I were running the show, I would look at Utah State first and Idaho before either Creighton or San Jose. Remember, there are not any non-football playing alumni of Boise State that didn't wish they had gotten into Idaho. What do you suppose the difference in donating ability and traveling budget is per household between Idaho graduates and Boise State graduates?

The difference between donating ability is astronomical in terms of athletic departments. Nobody cares for the Vandals....not even the Vandals. That would be an atrocious add. There's talk they're already contemplating a move to the Big Sky. Adding a school that can't fill up a 15K dome? I'm sorry.....this isn't even fathomable. Creighton > Idaho every day of the week.

and i must say...that's one fine lookin arena

It was a nice venue when I went to the game in Omaha sometime back in 2000-2002. We had a good team that dropped one on the road. I do not recall if it was the NCAA year or not.

As for Idaho, I imagine that BSU sucks all the air out of the room right now. 15-18 years ago they were both at about the same level. Then Boise hired Hawkins and then kept Peterson to succeed him. At the end of the day, Boise State is still just an expanded Junior College. Idaho is the same kind of university as Wyoming, Nevada, and Hawaii are. That is what I was thinking about.

Creighton has a really nice basketball program right now. But at the end of the day, isn't it still an urban Jesuit school that does not field a football team? That sounds like a Midwestern version of the non-football Big East schools. I would be very weary about trying to meld them and us.

This.

Tracy Ringolsby brought up a good point. Air Force was considering putting their basketball/olympic sports in a conference they would have more success in. We might need TWO basketball/olympic sports schools.

Witchita State R.P.I. 18
MVC record 12-2
1st in MVC
Overall record 20-4

Creighton R.P.I. 22
MVC record 11-3
2nd in MVC
Overall record 21-4

That would leave the West at nine football playing schools:

Hawaii
Fresno
Nevada
UNLV
Utep
UNM
Wyoming
CSU
AFA

That would leave us at nine basketball playing schools:

Fresno
Nevada
UNLV
Utep
UNM
Wyo
CSU
Creighton
Witchita State

It would replace R.P.I.'s: 17 SDSU, 189 Boise, 121 TCU, and 165 AFA's with,

18 Witchita State, 22 Creighton, 31 Nevada, 169 Utep(low but rebuilding), 212 Fresno(same as Utep).

So even after losing SDSU, we would add THREE N.C.A.A. tournament teams and a rebuilding power in Utep. Fresno has a great young coach as well.

That looks like a league or division I want to be a part of, and it would make Mrs. Nance very happy because she would get to a couple more of her babies games.

The Wichita fans love the idea. They even suggest adding Tulsa and Utah State to the party, which would allow us to dump the alliance, have our own football championship game, and keep our league western.

Check it out...

Hey CJ, I don't know if you missed the memo or what, but Air Force has said that they were staying in all sports.

I didn't realize they announced that. That's great. That means we could add UTSA or San Jose as football only and chug right along with the best western basketball league in America, without having to add Tulane, Rice, and UAB to our league.

I would rather drink piss than bring UTSA or San Jose State into this league....

I have said nothing about wanting to bring UAB, Tulane or Rice into the league....but I won't you to tell me what UTSA and San Jose State bring to the Mountain West other than another New Mexico and UNLV in football terms.

Its all polishing a turd one way or another. There are positives and negatives to all these candidates, but regardless they will all pale in comparison to what Wyoming has been used to for many years now.
