We need to get Josh out of the pocket more....NFL be damned.

The entire Hawaii game I was telling my wife, we need to roll Josh out of the pocket and let him throw on the run. I've been saying it all season. It's what he does best. As soon as we did, he tossed a bomb to James Price in the end zone.

I know the NFL wants to see him be a pocket qb, but he's not in the NFL yet and we need him to play to his strengths.

I feel bad for Josh, with the schedule, the NFL hype, the dropped balls, and the lack of offensive threats, it looks like he's choking when he really isn't playing bad.

If we have any chance of a MWC championship it's going to be playing to our strong defense and letting Josh beat people OUTSIDE of the pocket.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree - it's what he does best.

I don't think that's a coincidence to us throwing the ball as little as we have. The cowboys have struggled in all facets of the passing game. This includes catching the ball, protecting the qb and the qb and the receivers getting open.

The reason for this is multifaceted but include inexperience from 3/4 of the equation. The offensive line is very young this year and have not been able to protect Josh. That is a big deal because without protection he can't find the open receiver. Protection also falls on inexperience in the backfield and the running back not being great in pass blocking too. Finally the receivers are not getting open soon enough to give josh a great target.

I agree and think they will roll him out more as the season progresses but we need those facets of the game to be more cohesive before we can expect the passing game to be more of a priority. I think it really starts with getting the running game moving in a positive direction so that play action can be successful, until then the db's have no reason to crowd the line of scrimmage.

It just blows my mind that they only let him throw 19 times.

I'm worried that we have thrown the ball too much given our personnel. Throwing the ball does no good if you don't have targets. I haven't looked it up but our average yards per pass play has to be very dismal so far. Hopefully Price will help change the equation.

Until last week the running game was even worse... I think you need to let your best player drop back and make plays. The WR need to step up and catch the ball, but if Allen has the ball he should be a threat to run or throw

You don't get a whole lot of chances to throw if you go 3 and out every possession because first down is a run for 1 yard, second down is either a failed jet sweep, another bad run, or a 3 yard completion, and then the third down is a throw that bounces off CJ's chest.

Takes about 12 possessions to get to 19 throws that way.

Well said, and you are correct best pass of the night was the roll out to Price, you are on to something, I could care less about the NFL draft cuz he's a Wyoming Cowboy now and all will say truly disappointing, and I've been to all games so far!!!! Play for the Pokes!!!!!!

Yeah I still miss Brian Hill, just imagine to NFL type players complementing each other at good ol UW, oh wait dream's over

Jet Sweep. Jesus. Gives Vigen a woody, I swear. Calls that fucker at least 3 times a game.
This Jet Sweep thing might be a clever strategy. In a close game, when a big play is needed, Conway runs the Sweep, the defense sees it, but at the last moment, Conway pulls up ad lobs a long TD pass. Oh wait! Vigen is running things. So I guess this won't happen.

Shhhh...

Austin Conway was a HS QB from Denver. Jovon Bouknight was a HS QB from Denver. Wyoming once beat UCLA. The end.
