We Coach to Lose

I honestly think our coaches do not coach to win, rather to keep the other team from putting up 40 on us. We are down 3 TDs and choose to run out the clock before the half with 2 minutes left. We are still down 3 TDs early in the 4th quarter in the opponent's territory and choose to punt. We dont win this game either way, but how can our coaches say they honestly coach to win when they dont even give the players a chance. Id rather see us lose 40-0 but have at least taken a shot rather than 24-0. How are players supposed to have any confidence when it has to be obvious that the coaches have none in them? I think this is the most disappointed I have ever been in Cowboy football and yes the Koenning years are included. It pained me to be at the sports bar with a former cowboy great and have to see him watch this.

Oh and we should learn more plays than the inside handoff to Devin Moore and Johnson should at least attempt to look like he is trying to catch the ball.

Not being on a headset, I don't see how Glenn even lets his OC know what he wants to do! The 4th Q would be a good example - it's 3rd and 12 - normally, the HC would communicate that he wants to go for it on 4th down if they don't make it, so that the OC can start considering play options. But Glenn can't have that discussion himself with his coordinators. It's strange.

People make a big deal about the headset situation but he will speak to a coach with one to communicate to our OC if he needs to. Many HC do not use a headset and I don't see that as much of a problem.

Can you please provide a list of the HC's around the nation that do not wear headsets? I bet it's less than 10.

Joe Paterno.

Yes, as Titleist pointed out, BB almost always has a headset on. Joe Pa (who is old as shit and you know and I know is the biggest figurehead in the NCAA), you are correct though, as the only time he wears one is when his knee is killing him and he's up in the booth. So he and Joe make 2? Is this the many HC's you are talking about?

I digress that nothing would probably be any different if he did actually wear one, but it sure as shit would have made me feel like he really was taking this season as a 'must win' season had he said when he hired Cole, "I normally take the approach that I trust my assistant coaches' decisions and don't want to stand in their way, however, I realize that this season is the most important one in my tenure as the University of Wyoming's Head Football Coach. Therefore I have decided that the hangtime on punts is not the most important stat in college football. I am actually going to sit down with Mr. Cole, learn the plays and the terminology of his offense and put on a headset so that I can make sure that what happened this last season, will not happen this coming season." Of course, it would be all in Sarah Palin speak.

Too bad he didn't, because had he done it then, it may have made a difference but now he's going to have a tough time getting someone to come to Laramie and buy his sweet house.

Good points - if Glenn had the kind of staff that Paterno has, maybe that would work out for him. But he doesn't. My frustration is that he refuses to make any kind of changes, even when it's obvious that things aren't going to work. Hey - we struggled last year - maybe getting on the headset and coordinating with your staff might help. Maybe listen in and see what the talk is. We're struggling this year - maybe something new is in order.

Instead we get quotes like, "Gosh, we suck. We're just gonna keep practicing and hope we get better." I just don't have a lot of hope for that strategy.

I had the opportunity to listen to both the Nebraska coach after their loss to Missouri this last weekend and Glenn after our loss to N. Mex. this last weekend. What a difference!!!! Not one time did I hear Glenn say anything about the coaching staff taking any responsibility whatsoever for our loss. The Nebraska coach on the other hand took complete responsibility for his team not being prepared for the game against Missouri (Nebraska was a big underdog - even at home). I don't think I have ever heard Glenn take one ounce of responsibility for any of Wyoming's bad performances - it's usually all about how good the other team was or how turnovers killed us or how the ball didn't bounce our way.
