And I'll take it on the chin for the prediction if not. Predictions be damned. Top of the conference? No. Just outside of that? Yes. Look back over the past few years and there aren't that many predictions (outside of the top 2-3 teams) that ever materialized. Here is Athlon from 2013:
Mtn West
BSU 12-1 FSU 10-3
USU 7-5 SJSU 7-5
AF 6-6 SDSU 7-5
WYO 7-5 Nevada 6-6
CSU 5-8 UNLV 3-9
NM 4-8 HI 1-11

Notice how accuracy really fades after the top 3 teams? We are about to be UNLV of 2013 or better...book it.

The MWC has so much parity, no one has been able to come close to predicting it for years. Except they generally are correct with WYO at mid to mid-to-low with predictions each year running around 4-8 to 7-5. And they are typically only one or two games off.

The conference is definitely in a down year. Subtract TCU, Utah, and bWHYu, and it looks even more pathetic. The conference title is clearly up for grabs, there really isn't a barn-burning team amongst all 12.

We have 8 conference games, skipping UNLV, UNR, and SDSU. Could we go 2 & 2 in OOC and 4 & 4 in MWC? Certainly.

I think it is possible. I want to see our first game though and then I'll have a better idea of how far this team will go.

I just got done watching NDSU vs. KSU 2013 and now I am convinced we will win 10 one of them being either oregon or MSU. Jk...but it did get me jacked up!!! Can't wait for saturday!!!

Yeah, that was with 11 years of recruiting and coming off his 2nd FCS title with a bunch of returning starters form that.

That said, I do have confidence that the players will be better overall, but I just don't know about how their W/L record will be. At least he has a bunch of experienced players going into this season.

I am just so impressed with the way the players played! So disciplined. So focused. And the one thing i noticed....they didn't do a bunch of dancing around after they had big plays....they just ran back to the huddle and got ready for the next play. love it.

That was just one game. His teams have beaten Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa State? in previous years. His NDSU teams were 7-3 against the FBS....all on the road.

I was talking about the K-State game though.

Only a slight tangent I think. Point is that the KSU game was not a one time exception for Bohl.

Agree, though, that it may take some time and patience.

lol, I got what you were saying...KSU was the defending Big12 champ and to compare Minn, ISU, CSU to KSU is not realistic. KSU was a much better win than all of those other FBS wins and your point was that it took a long time to get to the point where that was possible.

The same will be with Wyoming...we probably won't be ready to beat Oregon or MSU this year, and he has said in his interviews this will be a process. I fully expect this team to play good football though...and by that, I mean they will not have missed tackles, they shouldn't have blown assignments (all the time like we are currently used to) they will be in the correct position etc...I'll say it again...the talent on this team is here....so it's a little bit different than what he had to build at FCS NDSU. A lot of the pieces are in place...now the OL??? that is a rebuilding project for sure, but after Saturday we will have a much better idea. :twocents:

I completely understand...they were probably the best team he beat. I was just throwing out that it didn't take 11 years and 2 titles to get to that point. He had his teams ready to play from the get go.

All is good.

Go Pokes!!

What players on that team were recruited by Bohl 11 years ago?

I think we're better than NDSU was when Bohl first began. But where he didn't have true competition every week, I think we will be a while before we will talk any "National Promenance". That being said even when they weren't a championship caliber team when they came to Laramie a few years back, they did play disciplined football and almost pulled the upset.
And that's what I want right now, not National Promenance, that will come later. Get us winning seasons and bowl games. And please, please give us disciplined football!
