Washington State game thread

He was going to be back anyway. Just enjoy a win.
I literally said this to the misses about 30 second after the game: there will be Wyoming fans excited that we won, and there will be fans mad when Sawvel doesn't get fired because they will think the win saved him, but it didn't.

After looking at game log for the season and the final stats I couldn’t help but to think if we had a real offense this season could have been at 7-9 wins.

I am still ticked that Bohl didn’t try to hard to really up the ante with a more versatile quality QB. I do commend Bohl for signing Anderson but they knew it would be iffy if he would be able to play and stay healthy and they knew Svoboda was going to struggle with the passing with basically nothing else on the roster.

No way I could clamor for Clemons as any solution or he would have been ready to take over from the start.

I most certainly have to hope we are done with project QB’s and are ready to be committed to taking the position seriously as the major component in offensive production scoring points and helping the defense.

While the stats were better for us than WSU it was the defense that gave us the chance to win all night. Fortunately the WSU defense was suspect enough we were able to manufacture 15 points.

I’m glad Svoboda got the game winning throw. He never quit and has my respect for his efforts. The biggest tip of the Stetson goes to the all out effort by the defense.

Now for the waiting to see what happens next with recruiting and the portal. This win will be a help.

Haven’t felt this way much, but with Wicks assembling a team that will go full effort and this victory: Go Pokes!!!

We are stuck with Sawvel so it good to see he was a lot better with game management during the last drive. I hope he grows into the job but am realistic that the evidence so far does not support that happening

Happy to see the guys got a win to end the season. Glad to see they didn’t lose their fight despite the extremely disappointing season.

They were put in positions to fail all season long by the coaching staff. No one more than Evan Svboda. That isn’t the fault of the players.

What I do hope is that this win doesn’t cloud the judgment of fans or Burman/UW. We also thought they might have ‘turned a corner’ after the wins against Air Force and New Mexico, only to look like the same crappy team the next time they took the field. Sawvel must go.

D really finished the season pretty strong with great showings against Boise and WSU. this was the D I expected most of the season. Rookie HC with rookie D coordinator probably not a great combo.

The PAC-2's record against MWC teams they did not want in their conference:

Oregon State: 0-4
Washington State: 2-2
Barely 17k showed up to watch this 8-3 WSU team play Wyoming.

I understand it was a holiday weekend and they had lost their last two games, but attendance like that for a team that has had a pretty good season definitely does not scream ‘big time college football’ to me. WSU and OSU vastly overestimated their importance in the former PAC conference.

Last drive by Svoboda was really good. Looked like he was going 1 way regardless of coverage. If the kid could process a d he'd be pretty damn solid

In fairness - I thought Sawvel and staff was actually very poor with clock management on the last drive. Mind boggling poor.

We got the ball with about 3:45 left on the 10 yard line. We wasted away the clock to 2:00 without calling a timeout before the 2 minute morning to move the ball a mere 10 yards. We huddled and looked unprepared to run a real 2 minute offense. If it weren’t for being bailed out by the fortunate penalties and then the long pass plays connecting, we run out of time on that drive.

He has heart and I love that. He has the physical tools and I loved that too. But QB is not his position. He doesn’t have the accuracy nor the processing speed required. If he commits to TE, he has pro potential IMO.

I think he’s still too slow to be TE. IMO he only has the foot speed for DT or OL. He could pack on pounds and be one of them

I was thinking this to myself as well. I put it off as being wrong after we won with so little time left but I was wondering what the hell we were doing before that

Looked more like 7k at the VERY most showed up. Not sure who was counting...
