WAC expands once more..

Good move for them IMO. I hope the WAC survives...the MW needs it to IMO.

I think they should continue to push the bar, and get after some schools like NorthTexas, Texas State, Denver, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Montana, Montana State, Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Weber State...to name a few.

Montana has said no already.

For fact? It makes sense, Montana (The Griz) are a big fish in a little pond...they have most everything on their side (except of course any kind of decent national recognition / TV / discussion).

Montana said no.. they can't fund a move up since the legislature up here is slashing funds everywhere they can, especially from the Montana University System (which includes MT State). We have a god awful number of four year universities here, and I can't figure out why.. a ton of funding is poured into those colleges which eats away at what UM and MSU get. I think once MSU finishes their athletic projects they'll move up together.. but with the WAC in limbo it'd be a big leap of faith for Montana to join that conference.

LOL A buddy of mine told me that right after Seattle got accepted that the Big Sky offered invitations to both Idaho and Utah State. No word if they flat out rejected the offer or if they are seriously thinking about it.

And North Texas has turned down the WAC at least a couple of times before. It doesn't fit well going West so I think it would have to be power conference money and we know North Texas is not a candidte for that.
They may be waiting for something else to happen closer to home with C-USA. Otherwise, I see them staying in the SBC.
North Texas is a poor football program. When they fired Dickey a few years ago they nearly immediately lost 25% of their booster money from a $1million a year booster. Then when they hired Dodge, someone else I know stopped sending them money. But they do have a nice, new stadium to play in now that seats 30K. North Texas stopped playing their rivalry game with New Mexico State when they moved to the SBC.

Since they sellout for football games every year, they should build a 40,000 seater and gain more revenue. They may be down in funds for the first few years of the move, but once they start gaining revenue from the FBS level They should have no problem.
And if the WAC didn't work out, I'm sure the Sun Belt or even C-USA or even the MWC, which I don't see being a bad deal either (in the long run) would probably come calling.

Sunbelt and C-USA are both southern conferences that expand into the East coast.
