WAC could fold in football

No shocking revelations here....there's some drastic talk about adding Jackson State, App State, blah blah....but the WAC's football days appear numbered. This could be the last year, where La Tech and Utah State are favored to be the contenders. Tech is actually going to be pretty good this year....but this conference is at the end of its rope.

The WAC apparently has a commish now.

I would not miss it.
No reason to try to save it with teams out east.
I am interested in seeing how La Tech opens at Texas A&M though.
Then Texas A&M plays Florida.
Then Texas A&M comes to SMU and the Ponies need a beaten up TAMU to play.

SMU provided the biggest WTF??? result of the year least year by demolishing TCU in Ft. Worth. So crazier things have happened. Have to think the Aggies are feeling the pressure now that they're in the SEC.

SMU is in more of a mess this year.
It was not a WTF moment to me.
Like I said before TCU's 2 losses were to old SWC rivals.
SMU and TCU was really a tie though in the REAL rules but they got the win in the BCS rules of OT.

For SMOO we believe Garrett Gilbert will start at QB as a Jr. but the team lost another QB the other day to transfer to (I think Missouri State and I wish him well).
There is one position that June Jones has sucked at while at SMU and that is QB (surprise! surprise!).
And he obviously does not want to be there (trying to leave the last 2 years to Maryland and Arizona State).
I said I wanted him to leave so we could move on to a REAL COACH (I hope that sounds mean).
My favourite offensive player will probably be RB Zach Line (hope his injuries are healed).
And definitely my favourite defensive player is #92 Margus Hunt, DE (I love him!!).
Everyone should keep an eye on what he does this year and you can find him on youtube a lot in the throws for Estonia and playing FB for SMOO (he never played FB until 2009!).
Phil Steele has him at #24 DE.

June never really did find a dominant QB at Hawaii either. We kinda got lucky and Colt Brennan just fell into JJ's lap....he did really recruit him. Seems like SMU is losing QBs every year to Eastern Washington. That Zach Line kid is a beast though.....JJ never had a RB like that at UH.

I'm actually a little surprised by SMU's struggles with QBs. SMU has a much better recruiting market than Hawaii.....it should be much easier to lure top-rated QBs. Maybe Gilbert can be the first great one.....honestly one trait I hate about June is that the moment a QB begins to struggle....he pulls his ass. Breaks the confidence of his guys....

Sadly Hawaii fans still think they are a superpower waiting to happen due to the ultra super lucky 2007 season when Colt Brennan decided to return for his Senior Year thus fucking up any chance at a good NFL career.

I've always felt that in order to contend for a BCS bowl game, you have to be elite in every facet of the game. Offense, defense, special teams, coaching....everything. While that is true with TCU, Boise State, and Utah, the Warriors proved they can make it without that. It truly was the luckiest season I've ever seen....and it showed in that BCS bowl game. Thanks to Hawaii's fuck up, just going undefeated isn't enough to get to a BCS bowl game. You have to look really good doing it. Blame UH.

As far as I'm concerned, the WAC has been DEAD since the MWC began in 99. When ALL your original teams leave then it's just another conference. Now, that BYU, Utah, SDS and the like are leaving, (Rivalries we've grown to HATE/Love) that's when a conference truely dies, even when they weren't even considered the WAC anymore. But that's just my take.

Yes, QB Kyle Padron is at EWU now!
Zach Line is one of those overlooked types (Phil Steele has him as the #1 FB).
The recruiting around SMU is among the best areas in the nation but THE PAST stuff (You know the past) is not been conquered yet.
And the recruiters for SMU had few pipelines in Texas.
The DFW players go to the Big 12 mainly .........
Seems everyone wears Longhorns gear around the area.

The R&S that June Jones wants to run takes too long for the guys to learn.
One OL is back after a medical RS (a Plano Wildcat like Blair Burns) but the others will be new to starting.

DC Tom Mason (who was at Fresno State before) is doing much better than June Jones.

The coaching staff at SMOO is probably the oldest by age in the country.
Maybe they have a dead peters bench in JJ's office.
JJ seems like he's ready to bolt and the recruiting is poor like he doesn't have any interest.
Maybe he is sabotaging SMU with bad recruiting while he collects 2 Million $$ checks to get back at whatever.
Who knows??
BS gets old.

I will sit up at night and listen to Hawai'i on the radio if they are not on TV.
I thought the program was going down.
Guess that's why they made a coaching change but IDK.
