UW used to be Receiver U

Been saying that for awhile. When you have players like Marcus Harris (All-American, Biletnifok winner), Ryan Yarborough (precursor to Harris, 2x All-American), Jovon Bouknight (All-American, set total yards per game records), and Jay Novacek (famous for being a deep threat TE and setting NCAA records as a recieving TE and Kodak All-American), I'd say the name is deserved. It looks like Herron may be the next in that line of outstanding recievers to have come through UW.

Malcolm Floyd should definitely be on the list of outstanding receivers. Also of note, Wendell Montgomery (put up good numbers after Harris left), Ryan McGuffey (very solid career), Scottie Vines (played with the Lions), Brock Ralph (done well in the CFL).

Going more for their careers here at UW than pro-careers.

Ford was a was supposed to be special and he turned into a dud. And now instead of playmaker receivers, we now have possession receivers. Example, A playmaker if received 60 passes on the year should top out yardage wise at 1,000 or more. Our possession guys get 60 catches for 400 to 600 yards. Big difference. We need to get difference makers.

I'm not sure about the stats for receivers of late, but have any of them even come close to 60 receptions since Bouknight was here?

Well David Leonard had 77 receptions way back in 2009.

So I checked out the stats for the leading receivers since 2004 for the Pokes.

2004: Bouknight 63 rec 1075 yds 7 TD
2005: Bouknight 77 rec 1117 yds 12 TD
2006: Ford 60 rec 674 yds 4 TD
2007: Ford 48 rec 559 yds 3 TD
2008: Bolling 26 rec 271 yds 2 TD
2009: Leonard 77 rec 705 yds 3 TD
2010: Leonard 47 rec 452 yds 3 TD

Really pretty underwhelming numbers for receivers after Bouknight graduated. Not sure if it's a lack of playmakers, lack of a quality QB to get the ball to them, lack of a quality o-line to protect long enough for the routes to develop, or a combination of all 3.

how are you supposed to put up numbers when the qb dinks and dunks for minimal gains and leaves his receivers out to dry constantly. Or just takes a sack or a short gain after the most predictable fake handoff you will ever see in your life. And in your life I mean the 20-30 times we ran it every goddamn game the last 2 years. You know what else Bouknight had? Running backs with an O-Line who made for decent play action passing. Well that and some good Wheatland talent behind center

Leonard has been our best since Bouknight. Leonard was reliable for receptions, but wherever he caught the pass was pretty much where he went down, he never broke out and made plays, which is what we need.
