UW-UNLV Part III

play our slow down game, play within ourselves, not get caught up in the thugness that UNLV likes to bring out in a team. We can beat them again!!! Sure wish I could afford to be there, but if we make the Championship I'll drive Friday night to see the Pokes try to take the MWC and a ticket to the big dance....C'mon Pokes let's get er done!!
Roll call of who's going down, just interested

Wish I was going. I will be watching.

I went back and looked over the game against UNLV on Saturday. Wyoming scored 13 points off of or after UNLV turned the ball over whether it was a quick lay up or making free throws after a foul or running the offense to get a basket.

UNLV on the other hand got 18 points after turnovers by Wyoming. So they gained 5 points on us because of this fact. We normally only turn the ball over 11 times per game and had 18 on Saturday against them. 7 more than our average. I think the biggest key to this game is not only to slow the pace down but do NOT turn the ball over! If we can stay at 11 turnovers or less in this game which is our average then we have a great shot to win this game.

Another key thing will be hitting free throws. We shoot about 75% on the year. The other night we only shot 72% which isn't bad but not as good as we normally do. That would have given us another 2 or 3 points. If we can limit our turnovers and hit our free throws when we get to the line then I think we pull the upset.

Go Pokes!!! :thumb:

My observation is that the more passes made in a possession, the more chances one goes awry and creates a turnover. Solution? Luster holds on to the ball while the others move around. Sooner or later an open man will get a pass.

That may be true, but the other side of that is that the more passes that are thrown, the more likely a defensive player will get out of position, thereby improving the quality of looks our shooters get. More passes are supposed to equal better shots and improved Field Goal percentages. They just can't be foolish passes.

Everything we needed to go right tonight is going wrong so far. Cruz and Martinez both have not made a basket and Washington is in foul trouble. I guess the only thing that we have done right is not turn the ball over a lot.

This game is over. We can't hit our asses with both hands right now, and Mike Moser is playing out of his fucking mind. We'll be lucky to hit 50 points tonight.

This is embarrassing and Martinez just looks completely out of it tonight. Oh well ... hopefully we can go to the NIT.

What's ridiculous, is that up until this game, the refs were being lenient. But in this game, a UNLV player runs into ours, foul on Washington. Pass to our player, UNLV player grabs from behind and it's a jump ball. And on top of all that, we can't hit the broadside of the barn.

I would have thought that Shyatt would have come up with something different for this game. By now UNLV and all the other teams have figured out Shyatt's scheme. Maybe he figured go with that offense and let the defense pick up the slack. Didn't work, huh? Oh well - more time to prepare for for the NIT.

Waddell needs to fricking block out. Son of a B. We look like absolute crap. For Larry to preach fundamentals and see this...wow.
