UW release on depth chart after spring

The first thing that caught my eye was the new starter at right OG, Nick Carlson. It says he weighs 235 lbs. Is that correct? I know Christensen likes thinner, more athletic lineman who are able to move a little bit better, but that seems excessively small for a D1 lineman. I'm not sure how 235 lbs is going to hold up against some of the defensive lineman in this league. Hell, most Wyoming high school football teams have guys larger than that on their line.

Im a little curious as to how two returning starters, Fletcher and Givens, both sit out of the majority of spring drills, and one keeps his starting spot and the other loses his. Did they base this on watching film of them in previous years or what? If I were Givens, I'd be one pissed off mother fucker. Not because it isn't fair, but because it seems inconsistent with how other nearly identical situations were handled. Hopefully he uses this as a motivational factor this summer and into next fall and puts Christensen in a position where he has no other choice but to start him.

I also wanted to take a little time to delight in the fact that I predicted the pecking order at QB correctly. :D I believe it was "dapokes" who suggested that I be shot in the foot when I predicted that Crum would be sitting above Barry on the depth chart at the conclusion of spring drills. I also predicted Barry may considering transferring after he was buried on the dapth chart at the completion of fall drills (both ACS and Benjamin being added above him). I may have missed this one. Sounds like he will be switching positions instead. I remember hearing a lot about how Barry was the most athletic quarterback we had and how strong his arm was. All of that was true, but it was clear many of the people saying those things had never been to a practice before. The kid has a rocket arm, but he repeatedly makes poor decisions when he has the ball and his accuracy is questionable at best. Don't get me wrong, I'm not delighting in the fact that Barry has struggled. I would have been ecstatic had he proven me wrong. It's just a little stroke to my football ego.

After watching spring drills/scrimmages and doing extensive research on the two incoming QB's, here is my prediction on how things will fall out at QB heading into Weber St:
1)Robert Benjamin
2)Karsten Sween
3)ACS

Maybe I should be shot in the head this time!

I think the RG depth chart has to be a mistake or DC is just trying to motivate a guy or two over the summer. How on earth can you start a guy who is 235 on the OL at the D-1 level? The answer is you can't! If this guy actually is 235 and he starts we have some serious problems.

I think the Givens thing is a little pat on the back for Stover and a little motivation for not only Givens but for the rest of the team to take notice. With Fletcher I guess they could have put Neuhaus (another Sr) ahead of him, but maybe one example was enough. I wouldn't put too much into it, competition will open up again in the fall and I would be surprised if Stover could be out a healthy Givens or Felker at NG, those 2 are a couple beasts in the middle. I do see Stover as the heir apparent to Fletchers spot after next year. But this is all long distance input, I haven't seen a practice, so I really don't know squat.

I really like the tandem of Terry and Davis, I think they will do well carrying the team while (Insert QBs Name) comes along with the offense.

Hoping Stewart, Bolling, and Leonard work their tails off this off-season, a lot will be on their shoulders in 2009.
