Jeremy Haefner - Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Rochester Institute of Technology
Duane Nellis - President, Texas Tech University
Laurie Nichols - Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, South Dakota State University

There is a survey of questions to ask a the bottom. Being a sports forum, which one do you think is going to be best for athletics?

I didn't read the article, but judging on where they are from the guy from Tech would logically be the best for athletics. That could definitely be wrong though

I think Duane Nellis might be, being from Big 12 country, he would know the importance athletics can have on a school in the long run.

Other than his quote(s) about athletics, what makes you so squarely in his corner?

I also liked some of his thoughts relative to athletics, but some of his other administrative moves were real head scratchers.

Based only on CV I like Jeremy Haefner. I don't know if Nichols can overcome a huge blemish on her record like that degree from CSU (joking aside, she seems like a good candidate too, they all do).

But he's only been there for 2 years, and was at Idaho for twice that time before moving to Lubbock. Spending 4 years at Idaho probably made him forget what an athletic department even is. He may not have been at Idaho for a long enough time to make an impact, but bringing in anybody tied to that school gives a pretty bleak outlook in terms of athletics funding and athletic facility upgrades. I'm also curious as to why he wants to leave TTU after only a few years there.

Nichols seems like somebody who can succeed here in certain aspects. She comes from a smaller, relatively isolated school and seems to have extensive experience with fundraising.

Ever been to Lubbock? It was invented by Texas to make the folks in San Angelo feel better about their town.

Wyoming's also a few steps up, academically speaking, from TT. TT's probably the most backwater and academically subpar school in the Big 12.

According to this rating by USNews, Wyoming and Texas Tech are tied at #168. South Dakota State came in at #187 and Rochester Institute of Technology was #7 in the list of regional universities.
